CVS Deal - Last Day!

I was on a coupon-induced high when I left Target, so I decided to go by CVS and see if they had restocked the Preperation H Wipes for the ECBs deal, but they hadn't. Fortunately, they did have a bunch of Hershey's Drops!

  • 4 bags Hershey's Drops, 2 for $5 - Used two $2 off of 2 bags coupon from the newspaper = 4 for $6.00
I used a $1 ECB from last time, so I paid $5.60 but I received $3 ECBs back :) So, if you subtract the ECBs I got, the bags cost $0.90 each! Not bad for candy that is normally $3.49 per bag :) And my hubs loves em.

Complicated Target Trip

Well I went to Target last night to make sure I got to take advantage of some deals before they change tomorrow. I tried to post it last night but I had serious internet problems, so if you want to take advantage of any of these deals, you will have to hurry out today before the sale changes!

This was probably my most complicated trip so far in my couponing career. I had to do 3 transactions to make it work (but luckily I had a very nice cashier!). So, here is what I did:

Transaction #1:

  • Hawaiian Tropic After Sun Cooling Gel, $4.99 - Used $2 off Any Hawaiian Tropic coupon from the newspaper = $2.99
  • Banana Boat Sport SPF 50 Lip Balm, $1.79
I paid (including tax) $5.33 and I received a $5 gift card.

Transaction #2:

  • Hawaiian Tropic Sensetive Skin SPF 50 Cream, $4.99
  • Banana Boat Sport SPF 50 Lip Balm, $1.79
  • 18 Big Roll pack of Charmin Sensitive, $9.99
  • Charmin Fresh Wipes, $2.49
  • Downy (medium size bottle), $7.99
My coupons were kind of confusing, so I will lest them here. I used:

  • $2.50 off wyb Any Charmin 8ct or + and Charmin Fresh Wipes Target coupon from the newspaper
  • Free Charmin Fresh Wipes wyb Any Charmin 8ct or + Target coupon for Target 5/1 P&G insert
  • $1 off Charmin Fresh Wipes from inside Charmin Toilet Paper
  • $1 off Downy Target coupon from newspaper
So, for Transaction #2, my post-coupon total (including tax) was $19.26 and I used the $5 gift card from the previous transaction, so I paid $14.96 and I got $10 in gift cards back.

Transaction #3:

  • 12 Giant Roll pack of Bounty Extra Soft, clearance $15.28 - Used $4 off Any Bounty 8ct or + coupon from inside Charmin Toilet Paper and $1 off Bounty Extra Soft Target coupon from newspaper= $10.28
  • Dawn with Olay Hand Renewal Dish Liquid, $2.49 - Used Free Dawn Dish Liquid wyb Bounty Extra Soft Target coupon from the Target 5/1 P&G insert and $1 off Dawn with Olay Hand Renewal coupon from inside Charmin Toilet Paper = Free + $1 overage
  • Dryel Starter Kit, $6.99 - Used $2 off Dryel printable coupon = $4.99
  • Woolite Dark 100 floz, Weekly Wow $11.99 - Used $3 off Woolite coupon from newspaper = $8.99
  • Woolite Dark and Light 2 pack, clearance $9.34 - Used $3 off Woolite coupon from the newspaper = $6.34
  • 2 Boxes of John Frieda Foam Hair Color, $11.99 each - Used two $5 off Target printable coupons and two $5 off coupons from Orlando Sentinel = $1.99 each
  • Wonka Exceptionals bag, clearance $2.44 - Used $1 off coupon from 5/22 Orlando Sentinel = $1.44
So, for Transaction #3, my post coupon total (including tax) was $38.56 and I used the $10 in gift cards from Transaction #2, so I paid $28.56

In the end I don't have any gift cards left, but I paid less out of pocket than I would have, which is great! With all three transactions, my total without coupons and gift card promotions would have been $116.11, but after my coupons and rolling the gift card deals onto the next transaction, I only paid $48.97. So I saves 59%! Woo Hoo! That's really good for all of the things I got, some of which were not on sale (like the Dryel and the Hair Dye). So, even though my overall total was fairly up there, it was a great price for everything I got. I even shared my coupons with the cashier (she was very surprised I had a Woolite coupon and I had some extras that expire soon, so I gave her one), and I gave her a list of coupon websites, so there may be a new convert to the ways of couponing!

Oh, I almost forgot! What makes this even better - there were coupons inside the Charmin Sensitive toilet paper :)
Inside was:
  • $2 off Any Charmin Sensitive Toilet Paper
  • $2 off Any Olay Facial Moisturizer for Sensitive Skin
  • $1 off Any Bounce Free & Clear
  • $5 off Any Align
  • $1 off Any Metamucil
  • $1 off Any Head and Shoulders Product
  • $1 off Any Puffs 3 pack or +
  • $2 off Any Venus Embrace Razor or Disposable
  • $3 off Any Tide Stain Release Free
  • $1 off Any Charmin Freshmates
  • $3 off Any Tide Free & Gentle
  • $2 off Any Gilette Clinical Deodorant
  • $1 off Any Secret Clinical Deodorant
  • $2 off Any GIlette Body Wash
  • $2 off Any Prilosec OTC
  • $2 off Any Pampers Diapers
And inside the Dryel there were more coupons!
  • $1 off Dryel Refill
  • $1 off Dryel 3-in-1
  • 75¢ off Dryel on the Go
So, I know it sounds silly to say that I purchased the toilet paper just for the coupons inside, but these are really high value coupons. So, when I went to the store, I knew I needed the Downy and since they had the gift card promotion on the Downy that I would have bought anyway, I knew I could spin it into a good deal with one of the other items with the other coupons I have. The gift card deal is only on certain sizes of certain products and with all the other things on the list, I knew I would get the most use and best deal out of the Charmin toilet paper. At first I was bummed because the main Charmin that is offered in the sale is the size that doesn't come with coupons, but as I was walking away, I saw that the Sensitive was included and it had coupons :) A win win! Now with my coupons that were inside this pack of Charmin, I'm thinking about going back today and doing the deal again but get some Tide Free & Gentle :) If I do, I'm sure I will post about it.

So, if you can, try to separate your transactions, making the ones you will get the gift cards from go first so you can maximize your savings to out-of-pocket spent ratio. It takes more time to figure everything, but you really do save more.

Fantabulous Food! Blueberry Cheesecake Ice Cream

Due to our overwhelming trip to pick blueberries last week, I decided to be adventurous in my baking with them :) So, I headed over to one of my favorite websites to find my muse:
Our Best Bites is a great cooking website with delicious recipes and step by step (pictured) instructions on how to make each one :) So, I typed in 'blueberry' and this recipe came up on the list. So, here is my experience with it :)

Ingredients:
3 cups fresh blueberries
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1/4 cup water
2 cups sugar
6 oz light cream cheese, softened
4 egg yolks
3 cups 2% milk
1 cup half and half
optional: 1 prepared graham cracker crust

1. In a small saucepan, combine blueberries, powdered sugar, and water. Bring to a boil and then reduce to a simmer.
Simmer for 10 minutes and then remove from heat and allow to cool completely.
2. In a large saucepan, combine milk and half and half. Bring to a boil and then remove from heat.
3. While milk is heating, combine cream cheese, egg yolks, and sugar in a bowl and mix well.
4. After you have removed milk mixture from heat, very slowly pour half of the milk mixture into the egg yolk mixture while the beater is running.
This is called tempering the eggs, meaning that you're slowly acclimating them to heat so you can cook them without them curdling. Mix the egg mixture well and then add tempered egg mixture back into the hot milk mixture.
Over medium-low heat and stirring often, cook to 160 degrees (use a candy thermometer; 160 degrees is considered safe for most animal products, eggs included). Remove from heat.
5. Place pan in ice (I put the ice in the sink and poured the mixture into a metal bowl on top of the ice).

Allow to cool to a touchable temperature and then add those gorgeous blueberries and all of the liquid with them.

6. Combine completely and put in the fridge for several hours until well chilled.

7. Freeze according to manufacturer's instructions. After churning it will be like soft-serve. Place in an air-tight container in the freezer to let it set up.

8. If you're adding graham cracker crust: While the ice cream maker is working its magic, go ahead and break up the graham cracker crust. Leave some bigger chunks - the ice cream maker will break them down and the texture in the frozen ice cream is awesome!
When the ice cream is very thick, add the pieces of crust and then stop the motor as soon as the crust pieces have been mixed in.

Transfer to a freezer-safe container and freeze for at least three hours.
*It will still be fairly soft, but it definitely has a firmness to it. So, just put it in the freezer and let it work its magic. Since mine is still in the freezer, I do not have a final photo, but I will be sure to post one as soon as it is ready :)
