Target and Petco Trip

I couldn't resist the temptation to go back to Target to make more money off of the John Frieda :) And happily, there was a huge stack of the Full Repair on the clearance shelf. I also remembered a nice little freebie I saw mentioned on a different blog and was thrilled to find it myself:
This was from a single sheet ad with a coupon that was in the newspaper over a month ago and I'm so glad I hung onto it! They just started selling the trial size of this Iams dog food at Target and the coupon has no size restriction! Hooray for free food!
Here is what else I got with my overage :)
  • 6 double packs of John Frieda Full Repair Shampoo or Conditioner with a Styling Treatment, clearance $5.98 - Used six $5 off coupons from the newspaper and three $3 off 2 Target printable coupons = 6 for Free + $3.12 overage
  • 2 Trial Packs of Iams Proactive Health Dog Food, $3.00 - Used two $3 off coupons from the newspaper = 2 for Free
  • 4 Bonus Packs of Dove Men+Care Deodorant with a Free Travel Size, clearance $3.38 - Used four $2 off coupons from the 6/26 SS insert and two $2 off 2 Target printable coupons = 38¢ each
  • 3 10-packs of Papermate Pens, $1.02 - Used three $1 off Target printable coupons = 2¢ each
  • Sonia Kashuk Eye Makeup Remover, $9.99 - Used $1 off Target printable coupon = $8.99
So, my overage from the John Frieda paid for the remainder on the deodorants :) It evened out to me just paying for the makeup remover, which I needed anyway :)
After Target, I swung by Petco :)
    • Two bags of Healthy Selects Chicken Chip Treats, $12.99 B1G1 = $6.49 each
    • 2 cans of Royal Canin Cat Food = 2 for Free
    • Wellness Super5Mix Dog Food, $20.99 - Used $3 off printable coupon = $17.99
I also had a $5 off $25 coupon from the Orlando Sentinel today :) I can't fully describe how thrilled Gordo was with these treats :) I really only got them to hit the $25 to use the coupon, but he would never have known.

Late Night at Target and Walmart

I have to admit, I have been putting off going to Target, but now I am kind of glad I did just because of what I found!
        • 6 double packs of John Frieda Full Repair (treatment and shampoo or conditioner), clearance $5.98 each - Used six $5 off Full Repair Styler coupon from the newspaper and three $3 off 2 Target printable coupons = 6 for Free + $3.12 overage!
        • 2 Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Nail Polish, $2.49 each - Used two $1 off printable coupons (no longer available) and two $1 off Any Sally Hansen Nail Product Target printable coupons = 49¢ each
        • Hotwheels Car, $1.07 - Used $1 off printable coupon (on Target's website, but a manufacturer coupon) =
        • 3 pack of Stride Spark Gum, clearance $1.48 - Used $1 Target printable coupon = 48¢
        • Benadryl Itch Stick, $2.29 - Used $2 coupon from peelie pad at CVS = 29¢
        • 10 pack of Papermate Pens, $1.02 - Used $1 off Any Papermate Target printable coupon =
        • 4 packs of Trident Layers gum, clearance 86¢ each = 4 for $3.44
So, with all my coupons and overage, I paid $1.89 :) I was thrilled! I have seriously been holding onto a huge stack of those Full Repair coupons for over a month because all the other deals were always completely gone by the time I got there. Well, it goes to show you, patience pays off sometimes :)
After Target, I went by Walmart (which I had also been avoiding).
          • 3 bins of Bug Gummi Candy, clearance 25¢ each
          • 8 boxes of KY Jelly, $2.62 each - Used eight $3 off printable coupons (no longer available) = 8 for Free + $3.04 overage
          • 4 Trial Packs of Cascade Complete Packs, 97¢ each - Used four $1 off coupons from the 7/3 PG insert = 4 for Free + 12¢ overage
          • 4 Black Flag Fly Swatters, 98¢ each - Used four $1 coupons from the newspaper = 4 for Free + 8¢ overage
          • White Cloud Baby Wipes, $1.50 - Used $1 off Any White Cloud Product coupon from All You Magazine = 50¢
          • Chapstick Lip Gloss Pot, clearance 25¢
          • 2 six-packs of Rayovac AA Batteries, $3.47 each - Used two $2 off printable coupons (no longer available) = $1.47 each
          • 6 packs of Mentos UP2U Gum, $1.28 each - Used six $1 off coupons from the newspaper = 28¢ each
I also got a few other things that helped out with my overage :) Everything went fine except that I had to argue with the cashier to use my coupon on the White Cloud baby wipes. It was the age old wording verses picture argument - the coupon showed two types of toilet paper, but said Any White Cloud Product. After my very cheerful cashier called a manager over, they told her to just take it since I was right. I just wanted to show you that if you are right, you will prevail. Yes, there are times when you should just let it go and walk away, but in this case, it just took one other person who immediately backed me up and everything was fine. Yes, it's frustrating, but if you are using coupons correctly and in a fair way, there is no reason a rational person can turn you away.

          Publix and CVS Trip

I actually managed to get to Publix on the first day of the sale instead of the last this week :)

          • 4 boxes of Emerald Nuts Breakfast On the Go, 2 for $5 - Used four $1 off coupons from the newspaper = $1.50 each
          • 2 loaves of Nature's Harvest Butter Bread, $2.79 B1G1 = $1.39 each
          • 2 boxes of Barber Foods Stuffed Chicken Breasts, 2 for $7 - Used two $1.50 printable coupons (no more prints) = $2.00 each
          • Bag of Fresh Cherries, $2.49 per lb
          • 3 tubes of Crest Toothpaste, 10 for $10 - Used three 75¢ off coupons from the 6/5 PG insert - 25¢ each
So, not the lowest total ever, but I really wanted to snag several of these before my coupons expired (that day!).

After Publix, I ran by CVS - it's turning into my favorite place to be this week! And with what I Got, I guarantee I will go back tomorrow!
Mainly I just wanted to show that the CVS on highway 50 has gotten more of the Pringles To Go, and they are still on sale for $1, so if you had one of the coupons from the magic coupon machine from last week, you can still use it! That is one of the best things about CVS, they will always take an expired store coupon if it's on an item they run out of. So, not only did I get a completely free can of ships (no tax or anything), I also got a coupon for a Free gallon of milk! I didn't realize I had purchased 5 already :) And I got a coupon for $10 off $50. I was very excited!

Fantabulous Food! Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizza

Ok, so we made the dough and the sauce last week. Now we are ready to make a pizza!

If you froze your dough, make sure you take it out of the freezer the morning you want to make the pizza and it will be thawed in time to have the pizza for dinner. Also, the recipe I am going to post calls for fresh tomatoes instead of pizza sauce, but I have substituted the sauce every time I have made it before now and it is delicious.

          Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizza:

          Ingredients:
          1 recipe of pizza dough
          3/4-1 lb of mozzarella cheese
1 (28 oz) can of plum tomatoes, coarsely chopped - I used about 2 cups of fresh tomatoes chopped up, reserving as much juice as possible
          1 tsp basil
          1 tsp oregano
2-4 garlic cloves - I used about 3 tsps of minced garlic
          salt
          grated parmasean cheese
          2 tbsp olive oil
          shredded asiago and romano cheese
*Can substitute tomatoes, basil, garlic, and oregano for pizza sauce

          1. Before actually assembling the pizza, you need to prep and chop all your other ingredients. So, first I sliced my tomatoes and peppers:
Don't they look yummy :) My visiting teacher from church gave me some from her garden and there are a few of mine in there as well :) So, I diced them up (and they were perfectly ripe too - yum).

          2. Then I sliced my mozzarella. I used a block of mozzarella this time, but I have always used shredded before - either way works fine.
          3. I decided to use ground chicken this time, but I have used sausage, pepperoni, prosciutto, ham, etc. Really any meat is good, just make sure you cook it before it goes into the pizza. For my ground chicken, I put oil in the pan and heated it up on medium high.
Then added the chicken and two laughing cow swiss cheese wedges - these give a lovely creamy tecxture without overpowering the flavor too much.
If you use the cheese, make sure to smush it up in the chicken so it mixes evenly.
When most of the pink color was gone, I added a little milk, lemon juice, pepper and garlic salt for flavor.
and just cooked it down until the liquid evaporated completely.
          4. Now to assemble to pizza. Once dough is pressed into pan and risen like dough recipe states, layer the bottom of dough with mozzarella cheese.
          5. If using fresh tomatoes, etc, put the tomatoes on top of the cheese.
Then spread garlic, basil, oregano, and salt evenly over the tomatoes.
Then add peppers and whatever meat you choose.
          6. If using pizza sauce, put your meats and toppings on the cheese, then cover with your sauce.

          7. Sprinkle top liberally with grated parmasean cheese (and asiago and romano if you want).
And drizzle olive oil over top.
          8. Bake at 475 degrees F for 35-40 minutes or until top is light golden brown.
Let it sit and cool for 15 or 20 minutes before you eat it! I speak from personal experience, this baby is really hot, especially if you use sauce - it will burn your mouth. Also, it's not as crumbly if you wait. Here is what my traditional style pizza looked like:
it was pretty crumbly, but tasted fantastic! It was different from the pizza we are all used to, but still very good. If you want a flavor like you are used to at a restaurant, use pizza sauce! The pizza with fresh tomatoes was good, but if I had been excited about having pizza similar to what I am used to, I would have been very disappointed. This was is really good, but definitely a different flavor (honestly, a little more of a sophisticated flavor if that makes sense).

So, I hope you enjoy your pizza :) Post pictures of yours if you make one so we can all see how yours turned out!

              Ask Megan: Deciphering Coupon Lingo

This is a topic that took me a lot of practice to understand, and I don't think you can ever completely comprehend because it changes constantly. However, there are some abbreviations and definitions that are commonly used and finite, so I thought I would give you a quick list of them all.

So, first off, here is a list of commonly used acronyms.
              Types of Inserts -
              RP - Red Plum
              SS - Smart Source
PG - Proctor and Gamble (P&G)
              GM - General Mills

              Drugstore Lingo -
ECB - Extra Care Bucks (CVS Pharmacy)
              RR - Register Rewards (Walgreens)
IVC - Instant Value Coupon (Walgreens)

              Common Abbreviations -
              B1G1 or BOGO - Buy 1 Get 1 Free
              B2G1 - Buy 2 Get 1 Free
EX - Expiration or Expires On
              GC - Gift Card
MC or MQ - Manufacturer's Coupon
              MIR - Mail In Rebate
              OOP - Out of Pocket
              SC - Store Coupon
              TMF - Try Me Free
UPC - Universal Product Code or Bar Code

So, now that we have the basic abbreviations, there are a few other terms that are not usually abbreviated, but still don't make much sense when you are new to the world of couponing.

Stacking - This is something that I post about pretty much every day, but I have never fully explained. Stacking refers to using more than one coupon. The kicker is, these cannot both be the same type of coupons, and by type I mean you could not use two coupons that say Manufacturer's Coupon on the same item, nor could you use two Store Coupons on the same item. Stacking means using one of each. For example, Target has a constant supply of Store Coupons available to print on their website. Well, these are good by themselves but can be even better if you have a Manufacturer's coupon from the newspaper or some other source for the same product. Most stores allow stacking, however you should ask before you try to do this if you are at all unsure to avoid any complications.

Overage - This is something that is accepted in some stores, but not in all, so you need to check before you try to do this. If you have coupons that exceed the value of your item, whether it's due to a sale or whatever, it does happen. When it does, we call that overage, meaning it is the amount of money that your coupons go over the cost of your total. Some stores, like Walmart, will actually pay you cash if you go over and don't want any other items, but most stores either do not allow it or would just apply your overage toward other items you buy, making their price lower.

Filler - This refers to any low priced item that you would use if you need to reach a certain total to get a deal. Sometimes, you can have coupons that end up giving you overage. Well, most stores will not just give you cash back when your coupons exceed the value of your total, so you would need to buy other items to absorb that overage. These items are called filler items because they fill in the space between your overage and the total you already had.

Have I missed anything? If you have any terms you would like explained, please leave a comment or message me at showandtellmeg@gmail.com and I will add it to the list!

              Free Cascade at Walmart!

This Sunday's PG Insert included a coupon for $1 off Any Cascade Product. Walmart happens to sell the "Trial Size" of Cascade Complete with 3 action packs for 97¢, so you make 3¢ per coupon!

*Keep in mind, that you can only use 4 of these coupons each time you go as listed on the coupon.
