I also love to tell others about what I learn so they can learn it too :) Put these two ideas together and that pretty much describes my site. I post about products reviews, 'how to' explanations for new skills and hobbies, recipes, and money saving tips. If I find it is profitable for me, I put it out there to help make the lives of others a little bit better. I've had the pattern for years in the Whimsical Little Knits book but I had never bit the bullet. I've made 2 other Ysolda patterns, but never a shawl, so something about that just felt right when I was hunting a use for this yarn. The yarn was given to me when I friend gave me 2 huge buckets of good yarn, but sadly this one had no button band so I have no idea what it is. A burn test showed that this is sock yarn - it feels like a merino nylon blend to me - but it just had the most beautiful tonal pink color. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEie9nbsGhtBwhEI6X0wGuq22_0tSSb2yjyenxkazxRqsy4Ii06pwPIjsn_XVOJaT4FIonsaUT4VSPZ_gHI_yNjSFUHOqJaBLn3A6kPbat2r-UsTpAL3SnGrp4HGUtXoGrM5Tee8urJee0-6V1PrXmpPRYf34fcqjavn-83P05RUCny0PUNrhcWwQslSkKsC/s1288/20240310_165459.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1248" data-original-width="1288" height="620" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEie9nbsGhtBwhEI6X0wGuq22_0tSSb2yjyenxkazxRqsy4Ii06pwPIjsn_XVOJaT4FIonsaUT4VSPZ_gHI_yNjSFUHOqJaBLn3A6kPbat2r-UsTpAL3SnGrp4HGUtXoGrM5Tee8urJee0-6V1PrXmpPRYf34fcqjavn-83P05RUCny0PUNrhcWwQslSkKsC/w640-h620/20240310_165459.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>I wanted a nice lacy pattern that would shine in this mostly solid colored yarn and I think this project was just the ticket. I did run into trouble simply because I was mindlessly knitting the top stockinette section and didn't pay enough attention to the yarn overs at the edges. I missed 3 yarn overs, which made my stitch count off by the time I needed to set up for the lace. I had to redo the first 6 lace set up rows seriously like 4 times. This had to sit in time out for a few days I was so frustrated, but I finally realized what I needed to do for it to line up and then it was smooth sailing ... until I reached the last row. I was knitting merrily along and I thought I would have enough yarn, but I ran out about 6 inches from the end and still needed to bind off. I was able to tink back about a foot and use a smaller needle for that last row, which enabled me to just barely squeak out that full row, then I dug in my stash for a complimentary yarn I thought would work for this. I settled on <a href="https://shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=726901&u=652021&m=59159&urllink=www%2Eknitpicks%2Ecom%2Fyarn%2Fstroll%2Fc%2F5420133&afftrack=" target="_blank">Knit Picks Stroll</a> in Jack Rabbit Heather, which I think actually makes me like the shawl even more. It's a nice frame for the edge and is still neutral enough to go with whatever I want to wear this with. <br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhP-F7RdgFC2VSz1XS-fKFCpZALBBuJFoCZlE5Y6Y-iT30Fti-7sPCCxxLNr96mjHKl-RXzZDoQv3AiY8X7_Ehago8PyWBMOh6QyskQqPAgiRicDQ_ll97HIFkenPKKuWLt-cuicSxs16zXMQgUymWTZF92MM0zSHljwcH0htkySaU49smmz-aiPbYck4Qz/s1348/20240310_165536copy.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1348" data-original-width="1288" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhP-F7RdgFC2VSz1XS-fKFCpZALBBuJFoCZlE5Y6Y-iT30Fti-7sPCCxxLNr96mjHKl-RXzZDoQv3AiY8X7_Ehago8PyWBMOh6QyskQqPAgiRicDQ_ll97HIFkenPKKuWLt-cuicSxs16zXMQgUymWTZF92MM0zSHljwcH0htkySaU49smmz-aiPbYck4Qz/w612-h640/20240310_165536copy.jpg" width="612" /></a></div>So that's my Ishbel Shawl! I had a lot of fun making this, despite the small set backs, and I still really love this yarn. I love this pattern for self striping yarn because it just makes those chevrons stand out and look very impressive. This yarn is Premier Yarns Fruits in the Dragonfruit colorway, which is 100% acrylic, but I just couldn't stay away from the fun print. I used this yarn for my <a href="https://showandtellmeg.blogspot.com/2023/06/fo-watermelon-socks.html" target="_blank">Watermelon Socks</a> as well and it's held up great, so I wasn't worried about using it again. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgonNE6yzHPw3FGqV2ne2-xkmjdamrO4g9_8qZrOigQ6bNYkk-GQEg2DGyV-wG9H_2g3WSQcdcl_H3KxeKkTa__ev72uvKCB_P6HN6cox5Im9e3a3J14No_ae9C9Z4g6a7HNucAV27q9ny88Qe60CfMou7vrgysRDNaQ7iy_qfJJr7XnvAMzfBNn0WFRN54/s1248/20240310_170223copy.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="868" data-original-width="1248" height="446" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgonNE6yzHPw3FGqV2ne2-xkmjdamrO4g9_8qZrOigQ6bNYkk-GQEg2DGyV-wG9H_2g3WSQcdcl_H3KxeKkTa__ev72uvKCB_P6HN6cox5Im9e3a3J14No_ae9C9Z4g6a7HNucAV27q9ny88Qe60CfMou7vrgysRDNaQ7iy_qfJJr7XnvAMzfBNn0WFRN54/w640-h446/20240310_170223copy.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The story of these socks makes them probably the least planning for a project I've ever done. I was going to a Solar Bears hockey game at the arena and I wanted to bring some knitting, but I didn't know how particular they would be able bringing in knitting needles plus they have a bag policy. I had less than 10 minutes before I had to leave to pick a project and grab the supplies, so I grabbed a pattern I already had printed out and had used before along with some cheap dpns and this yarn. I stuck the needles in my small purse and put the yarn in my pocket and went on my way. I cast on at the game and got just beyond the cuff done, then I quickly lost interest in the project because I had others I was more excited about at the time. This year, I decided I wanted to make myself more socks, but being the responsible individual I am, I couldn't just abandon this project and start yet another. So I set out to get these done, which took a whopping 2 weeks to complete. Craziness.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMpExjCrNsO3OmP5KiFKqC10M9S6jpXjYB6MVdp3nT4LAaNLL0g_wNrFXkZS9eDxYtWVyF_1Dbll_HHXT1FPGukEqsyAqIpSaOs-JdD9q4oNsrYuTmj28ssJNRh1L3_PDf5uHM_N5u1VgQGXZjZ0MN5DEYeCm54W7euS9q9f9F-qi82pu05hChdU64golT/s948/20240310_170314copy.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="908" data-original-width="948" height="612" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMpExjCrNsO3OmP5KiFKqC10M9S6jpXjYB6MVdp3nT4LAaNLL0g_wNrFXkZS9eDxYtWVyF_1Dbll_HHXT1FPGukEqsyAqIpSaOs-JdD9q4oNsrYuTmj28ssJNRh1L3_PDf5uHM_N5u1VgQGXZjZ0MN5DEYeCm54W7euS9q9f9F-qi82pu05hChdU64golT/w640-h612/20240310_170314copy.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>When I started the first sock, I just wanted the pink at the top edge. Once I got to about where the heel should begin, I noticed I was just starting the pink again and I could get it to line up just at the beginning of the heel flap, so I went back a few rows to make that happen. I knit the heel flap and as I reached the end, I was absolutely shocked by how the stripes in the yarn lined up around the gusset and foot. The first time I made this pattern, I changed the heel to an afterthought style because I wanted to make extra sure the stripes in my self striping yarn lined up. This time I deliberately threw caution to the wind because I've learned that heel flaps just fit my feet better, so I was willing to accept that the pattern might be thrown off after the heel. Lo and behold! It lined up so well that I couldn't have made this happen if I actually tried. There is no extra spacing on the top of the sock and the heel is framed perfectly by the pink and yellow stripes. Absolutely amazing lol.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRYJchkBw7PLxqZNUJudgNnZokWzhP8V-BcT4R_nW1hdtxqf2ArZ1Nq8SBiJKM8vA7CMhFBmIHEkbRZXTI3eTV1DJ2ZvtRBDLMaTceeEBmjVM2axPMSbkMHPgqygUhelFJ215EhguZqKjLu6Vud7Q61sO5lQatIi64pWgq8gYLO62Mzfce5CpjP0K2Ng98/s1004/20240310_170148copy.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1004" height="574" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRYJchkBw7PLxqZNUJudgNnZokWzhP8V-BcT4R_nW1hdtxqf2ArZ1Nq8SBiJKM8vA7CMhFBmIHEkbRZXTI3eTV1DJ2ZvtRBDLMaTceeEBmjVM2axPMSbkMHPgqygUhelFJ215EhguZqKjLu6Vud7Q61sO5lQatIi64pWgq8gYLO62Mzfce5CpjP0K2Ng98/w640-h574/20240310_170148copy.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>It seems that my second sock came out a smidge shorter than the first one, which is odd because I really thought I started the toe in the same spot. By that time, I was just wanting to finally be done and it's just the toe so I really didn't mind it enough to go back and change anything. In the end, I do wish I had used a smaller needle for the cuff at the top as they kind of bunch up since this yarn is acrylic and have no natural spring. Lesson learned! I will still wear these and think they are ridiculously cute.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzFO2cAfYqovJ2-EwnuGGN3D-AH88GBlOl31PhZ8U1sSEquXdOJodK_j0AGZw_oy_wkgzzF7NZHpDFZTVF-9CcqkTz2fWi1cw4GBsoKeQMOvHxewbE8J4M5e1AYop_3AXAbMpKHjv-iPnVGWmUpt-5o-W7nqRxXPmIW5Wj6ghJPH8OEz9rf1Wft1cDRepz/s1368/20240310_165651copy.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1368" data-original-width="1288" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzFO2cAfYqovJ2-EwnuGGN3D-AH88GBlOl31PhZ8U1sSEquXdOJodK_j0AGZw_oy_wkgzzF7NZHpDFZTVF-9CcqkTz2fWi1cw4GBsoKeQMOvHxewbE8J4M5e1AYop_3AXAbMpKHjv-iPnVGWmUpt-5o-W7nqRxXPmIW5Wj6ghJPH8OEz9rf1Wft1cDRepz/w602-h640/20240310_165651copy.jpg" width="602" /></a></div>So that's one more sock project for my drawer - just in time for it to be too hot to wear socks, lol. I've got the body finished as well as both front yokes. I'm on the back yoke now and I've run into a snag. Narrow shoulders strike again - the directions tell you to knit until the back is the width of your measurement between your shoulders (mine is 12 inches), but I've reached the point I should be changing to ribbing and I'm still at 16 inches across. So I know I will have to rip my entire back yoke back to the beginning, but I'm trying to decide if a triple decrease every other row will be good enough to get me down to the 12 inches. So this has been in time out for the past few days as a result.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJGHaLdmiuff9RWendxpX4egT2t-8jnYahyphenhyphenO_2rUoVqvFHg2xcxbUCMcxEOAHmeTlj5u635XdQlMuinov_PLkwhyphenhyphenoYADeJJv6-mlQ_9ybFdArvouidvaKJ7BM242S_7SKxvR5Xp_UC301b0HX4e2pxnNpbRu3Vs2crwlt2HZQd3p1VA3w_VhVorvHf2Vmi/s2580/20240319_085207.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2430" data-original-width="2580" height="602" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJGHaLdmiuff9RWendxpX4egT2t-8jnYahyphenhyphenO_2rUoVqvFHg2xcxbUCMcxEOAHmeTlj5u635XdQlMuinov_PLkwhyphenhyphenoYADeJJv6-mlQ_9ybFdArvouidvaKJ7BM242S_7SKxvR5Xp_UC301b0HX4e2pxnNpbRu3Vs2crwlt2HZQd3p1VA3w_VhVorvHf2Vmi/w640-h602/20240319_085207.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">In the meantime, I've started the swatching for my next sweater. I've wanted to make the <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/audrey-in-unst" target="_blank">Audrey in Unst</a> pattern by Gudrun Johnston for like a decade. This past Black Friday, I bought some <a href="https://shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=726901&u=652021&m=59159&urllink=www%2Eknitpicks%2Ecom%2Fyarn%2Fwool%2Dof%2Dthe%2Dandes%2Dsport%2Fc%2F5420110&afftrack=" target="_blank">Wool of the Andes</a> in the Knit Picks sale in the Blackberry colorway just for this project. I swatched on size 5 needles like the pattern suggests and I have gauge, so I will be casting this on soon. Do I need another purple sweater considering I am knitting one at the same time? lol No but I like this color and design and I just want to make it. So there. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5_g_et-GzrwaNTwWtPDtciVGT-hcRGrhroU4Kr3-kD68OVMpo6lXx_fYU5WW7wx7dq0PQkC5__WX8aFii7w5siR1W3NvUyc-8KpjJcTsKrQ_hnt85Slq3UNHQ4_kAcq_vtvD3IxPIEay7GzD_Y33adovbQyPARODDfFbUu64N99oKNSM3K3LVdosRYGIc/s2448/20240319_084648.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1890" data-original-width="2448" height="494" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5_g_et-GzrwaNTwWtPDtciVGT-hcRGrhroU4Kr3-kD68OVMpo6lXx_fYU5WW7wx7dq0PQkC5__WX8aFii7w5siR1W3NvUyc-8KpjJcTsKrQ_hnt85Slq3UNHQ4_kAcq_vtvD3IxPIEay7GzD_Y33adovbQyPARODDfFbUu64N99oKNSM3K3LVdosRYGIc/w640-h494/20240319_084648.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I'm also working on a new project for the Crochet Flip challenge with Shannon Talks Yarn on You Tube. This is how I think now, lol. BUT if you are at all interested in making your own quick and easy magnetic pin plate for your sewing room, head on over and check it out. This project is so easy, it feels like cheating. Grab a thrifted plate or saucer plus some magnets and you're mostly there. These make wonderful gifts and each one is as bright and colorful as you can find a plate for. <a href="https://youtu.be/OIciFbBOXnw" target="_blank">Head over here</a> to watch it yourself and give me a like if you feel so inclined :)<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="308" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/OIciFbBOXnw" width="439" youtube-src-id="OIciFbBOXnw"></iframe></div>I'm trying to plan out more simple tutorials to make videos on, so if you have any ideas of things you've seen me do over the years, let me know!<br /><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13488541306043317638noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3949414890922711309.post-37870650157797784642024-03-07T08:14:00.002-05:002024-03-08T08:18:01.645-05:00Whoops! I sailed right through the stockinette section of the <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/ishbel" target="_blank">Ishbel shawl</a> by Ysolda Teague, but then I kept having problems getting the lace to line up. I seriously started the lace and undid it about 4 times. Ugh. It had to sit in the corner for about a week and think about what it had done, but last Friday I was determined to get it worked out and by Sunday it was smooth sailing. Now it's finished, so you will see this one soon.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi67SuZAySfRy-Ddxn8gSfH9KXPPNlUhmwhdTOqNO8DsuHuhon2xJqp7hz4OG17qj8FPLxtjzCPPveUWBDqA1gsAccLoTFQ36BdMymjNOcvlcwJwfEwyVb3haTKiBRIbjkGn79b3SZDlml5-8EIOoxZD4pUSB1mdFC1qFiJomJzzle1cnRJsU9iVrn50fTB/s2899/Untitled%20design%20(2)%20(1).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2819" data-original-width="2899" height="622" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi67SuZAySfRy-Ddxn8gSfH9KXPPNlUhmwhdTOqNO8DsuHuhon2xJqp7hz4OG17qj8FPLxtjzCPPveUWBDqA1gsAccLoTFQ36BdMymjNOcvlcwJwfEwyVb3haTKiBRIbjkGn79b3SZDlml5-8EIOoxZD4pUSB1mdFC1qFiJomJzzle1cnRJsU9iVrn50fTB/w640-h622/Untitled%20design%20(2)%20(1).jpg" width="640" /></a></p><p>My <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/rose-street-cardigan" target="_blank">Rose Street Cardigan</a> is also moving right along, but that ribbed bottom edge feels like it's taking an absolute age, lol. I knit ribbing as a necessary evil - dang English style knitting. This has become the perfect mindless project to grab when I'm on a video call or something else that I need to pay more attention to something other than a knitting chart, and as such I am sailing right through the body of this sweater faster than any other fingering weight project I've ever done, which is pretty cool. That picot edge, while cute, is easily the fiddly-est cuff I've ever knitted in my life. I managed to get it done and move onto the lace, but pretty much immediately my counts were off. Now I'm trying to decide if I frog back the lace section and start again or just keep moving forward.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhH2QruVJpDiEJeOIgngmORbLRTGZphRpD11xoJ3RXC42qVPR5WdE6LTtPs_8Teh5Ae9TLPEccWPyLeBsTVnM9Du629tDXdrAACD_1r_hm-j6b2AeIkiHWXIm7HGoZSLM18l9e24GskghQ9JK5pFPdqZAxmm0_PnPeU9c9MX6aQhnUVQbEH08kYCMX0BHVs/s4032/Untitled%20design%20(1).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhH2QruVJpDiEJeOIgngmORbLRTGZphRpD11xoJ3RXC42qVPR5WdE6LTtPs_8Teh5Ae9TLPEccWPyLeBsTVnM9Du629tDXdrAACD_1r_hm-j6b2AeIkiHWXIm7HGoZSLM18l9e24GskghQ9JK5pFPdqZAxmm0_PnPeU9c9MX6aQhnUVQbEH08kYCMX0BHVs/w480-h640/Untitled%20design%20(1).jpg" width="480" /></a></p><p>And on the most momentous news - I actually sewed something! I'm now closer to having an actually wearable New England dress. I had got to the point of adding the zipper on the side about a month ago and tried it on to discover the extra 2.5 inches of length I added needed to be removed. I still don't understand how I was so off - I did a mock up and everything. But I just could not get in the mood to unpick a serged edge in black linen fabric, you know? Well, I finally buckled down last weekend and got it unpicked, made the changes, and installed the lapped zipper. I'm now onto the sleeves, which feels like a bit of a miracle considering I started this project in November. I'm ready to get this done so I can actually sew other things again. I'm having a time where I look in my closet and wish I had different things than I do, so I really want to start making those things a reality. I just won't allow myself to change projects until this one is finished not only because it's the responsible thing to do, but also because my serger is threaded with black thread and I don't want to change it back for this dress, lol. Sewists will understand my struggle. So I'm hoping to finish this dress this week and then move on to some of the other things I would like to be wearing.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEJyeYixHpUP8oadrtAtrwsjWRUZpRdHKPhJ69oK4bvaKG1pK28klRwA_ApSr97fONNk4dH6kIlTrWsgUDKhLbV-xrGyUMiML_UhIZa5AAffwFg77wERUzvtiKMFvpzNCUvyl0LkJ_iYMr2QzRg0CAWy8JJpbK6nwQtt7Fx3-tCoakCpOPzp-k3ajPK-sb/s4032/20240306_072647.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEJyeYixHpUP8oadrtAtrwsjWRUZpRdHKPhJ69oK4bvaKG1pK28klRwA_ApSr97fONNk4dH6kIlTrWsgUDKhLbV-xrGyUMiML_UhIZa5AAffwFg77wERUzvtiKMFvpzNCUvyl0LkJ_iYMr2QzRg0CAWy8JJpbK6nwQtt7Fx3-tCoakCpOPzp-k3ajPK-sb/w480-h640/20240306_072647.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>And in completely different news, I am trying to grow flax in my back yard! I got the idea from Engineering Knits and since I got a spinning wheel I figured why not give it a go? So this is my flax bed I set up a few weeks ago and it's coming in pretty well.I'm just hoping it doesn't get too hot for it too soon.<br /><p style="text-align: center;"><br /></p>Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13488541306043317638noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3949414890922711309.post-43501712867096545432024-03-01T10:12:00.001-05:002024-03-01T10:12:57.846-05:00New Video: Why I Love Mochimochi Land Knitting Patterns<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="363" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/aNMW-V_6bvI" width="461" youtube-src-id="aNMW-V_6bvI"></iframe></div><p>I'm starting a series on <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFrUfYhdjrRpfgg-ChaXtnA" target="_blank">My You Tube Channel</a> called "Why I Love..." and I will be focusing on one designer or style or who knows what else to show you all the like that things I've made and why I love them. This was filmed a couple of weeks ago since I was trying to learn how to do all this, but if you want to know the extra goings on behind some of my recently finished items, this is the episode for you :) This episode I talk about:<div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li><a href="https://showandtellmeg.blogspot.com/2024/02/fo-belladonna-cardigan.html" target="_blank">Belladonna Cardigan</a><br /></li><li><a href="https://showandtellmeg.blogspot.com/2024/02/fo-beulah-bee.html" target="_blank">Beulah Bee</a><br /></li><li>Hockey Socks</li><li>Rose Street Cardigan</li><li>Ishbel Shawl</li><li>Coo and Coy</li><li><a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/15096164-pines" target="_blank">Pines Book Series by Blake Crouch</a></li></ul><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="365" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/janLff35w18" width="476" youtube-src-id="janLff35w18"></iframe></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>So if you're interested, please do head over to my video and give me a like :) Let's chat about making things!<br /><p><br /></p></div>Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13488541306043317638noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3949414890922711309.post-90098853027108610462024-02-16T09:26:00.002-05:002024-02-16T09:26:32.168-05:00FO: Mohn Cardigan<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGjYbmM62FjzMJQ3JqgmplYU7OFtVwg45-N8eN4TS1rvsg9mfF_iBLTK6ri6znHhNr93aSCAFjUEXH7HBv4Ss0K-efuxTB1JP3Dhw52Mine7XPQJZ7ioPsh_5-5oR3v7bLDXhLTzhecsOjDYWuJkgANIkarq4c_ORYNA5gCvAtx5hxXvULb0eYImYCq0un/s1376/20240204_155150%20copy.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1376" data-original-width="1376" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGjYbmM62FjzMJQ3JqgmplYU7OFtVwg45-N8eN4TS1rvsg9mfF_iBLTK6ri6znHhNr93aSCAFjUEXH7HBv4Ss0K-efuxTB1JP3Dhw52Mine7XPQJZ7ioPsh_5-5oR3v7bLDXhLTzhecsOjDYWuJkgANIkarq4c_ORYNA5gCvAtx5hxXvULb0eYImYCq0un/w640-h640/20240204_155150%20copy.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I am so excited to show off my finished Mohn Cardigan ;) Before I get fully into it though, I have a crazy announcement - I created a YouTube video about this pattern review!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="368" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/kT4D8HMbFB8" width="484" youtube-src-id="kT4D8HMbFB8"></iframe></div>I feel like our attention have turned to video instead of blogs ever since the feed readers shut down years ago, and since I enjoy watching content like this on YouTube myself, I decided to jump right in and start making videos. This is the first design released by Engineering Knits who is a vintage making YouTube creator I love to watch. She purchased this physical sweater as a vintage piece and it was so popular on her channel that she tried to find the original vintage pattern for people to make one of their own only to come up empty handed. So she looked over her finished item and created a pattern to replicate it, then she graded that out into a modern size range and released it for all of us to enjoy and I think it is just the coolest thing.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFL3VfOdsAOpMniZ4FPn2eTfDVPbWYYPNLRPztgvliJr41ORyFd8LujQKtOb5MakCufEZVa1947ElDV4fBhYuHBuDzeSxAeGpBkZdZQ1GqD-v8D04fTEjcxqMu5T8sxakRLvhs4eTw9CpIgcO_6lljqCAiavI_9KmmAPzoB_SNPTWr7gSOEGgaSX3vLb65/s1656/20240204_154952.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1656" data-original-width="1288" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFL3VfOdsAOpMniZ4FPn2eTfDVPbWYYPNLRPztgvliJr41ORyFd8LujQKtOb5MakCufEZVa1947ElDV4fBhYuHBuDzeSxAeGpBkZdZQ1GqD-v8D04fTEjcxqMu5T8sxakRLvhs4eTw9CpIgcO_6lljqCAiavI_9KmmAPzoB_SNPTWr7gSOEGgaSX3vLb65/w498-h640/20240204_154952.jpg" width="498" /></a></p><p>I did have to make some changes to my sweater - first off, I knit the body 2 dot repeats longer than written. I have a long torso - this is a standard alteration for me. I also like a more fitted waist look than this was designed to give, so I knit a 38 inch size when I have a 40 inch bust. I figure the bust area can stretch a bit and it will help the waist be closer to my actual waist measurement. I also had to make extra decreases at the sleeve head to avoid poofyness, which was not entirely successful. Looking at the example photos from testers and whatnot, this doesn't seem to be an issue for other people, so I chalk this up entirely to some unknown mistake I made when knitting that first sleeve. The second sleeve did not have the same extra section of stitches but it still had a bit too much ease and gives a bit of a poof. I'm still not really sure what I did to have that happen, but oh well. It's still cute :)</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeI25Fb6nRaMLfSNUfbAw7vl5rLDlrF-3jjak7Voz5eFEBS-Oi-SDUjW5_mqIw9elH4_ZRXnIDeffERWAtEGdMaywTCaYO_MU_E4Y4VErKRWA7oPmlc0x_gI9YalnF7sqx0wZoSfz88J4id1OU-GrpcnD1KK9vG1mEPH2YWRr10StT41gA8nA569os3_Vw/s1532/20240204_155056.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1532" data-original-width="1288" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeI25Fb6nRaMLfSNUfbAw7vl5rLDlrF-3jjak7Voz5eFEBS-Oi-SDUjW5_mqIw9elH4_ZRXnIDeffERWAtEGdMaywTCaYO_MU_E4Y4VErKRWA7oPmlc0x_gI9YalnF7sqx0wZoSfz88J4id1OU-GrpcnD1KK9vG1mEPH2YWRr10StT41gA8nA569os3_Vw/w538-h640/20240204_155056.jpg" width="538" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>I don't know why all my back photos turned out so blurry, but here it is. I used <a href="https://shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=726901&u=652021&m=59159&urllink=www%2Eknitpicks%2Ecom%2Fyarn%2Fupcycle%2Dalpaca%2Dblend%2Dsport%2Fc%2F5420464&afftrack=" target="_blank">Knit Picks Upcycle Alpaca Blend Sport</a> yarn for this because they had a crazy sale the week of Black Friday and had this yarn for $2 per skein. I bought a bunch of different colors so I was able to lay out different combos and see what I liked. I settled on Sapphire for the base with Black Pearl and Arctic for the dots and I really like how this turned out. I've actually never knitted with alpaca before because everyone always says it's so warm and this is Florida, but this is a blend of wool, alpaca, and acrylic so I thought I would give it a try and it's really not too bad heat wise since this is a sport weight.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieo1Om_bZk5qADQ6qit9iCqVklycGrKgwCOzZXgAIThhyphenhyphenv_AQ_rAqPPYsm-gkSJI1iLG2NAfMZhq_LvwTkzrSQC0qvE8Pza8P38zYvU1fU824tfxS4TUwgntw9kU9PaEOMQRPPOErpTP8Pb4n9lWRfiUEpgi6RzXpBAp7XAUnIU6-K1C1YA-xNI3lPeu9E/s1448/20240204_154935.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1448" data-original-width="1288" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieo1Om_bZk5qADQ6qit9iCqVklycGrKgwCOzZXgAIThhyphenhyphenv_AQ_rAqPPYsm-gkSJI1iLG2NAfMZhq_LvwTkzrSQC0qvE8Pza8P38zYvU1fU824tfxS4TUwgntw9kU9PaEOMQRPPOErpTP8Pb4n9lWRfiUEpgi6RzXpBAp7XAUnIU6-K1C1YA-xNI3lPeu9E/w570-h640/20240204_154935.jpg" width="570" /></a></div>I worked very hard to make sure that all my dot rows lined up across the sleeve area. I feel that this is one of those extra details that you don't really pay attention to when it's done well but that would look super off if you didn't line it up. I had to keep counting the bobbles on the example photos and counting back to make sure I started with the right colored dot on the sleeves since these were knit bottom up, and it was a bit stressful but it worked out fine so it was worth it. I also love the jaunty little collar! My hair covers it most of the time, but I think it's a fun little detail.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjo7LiCJM-gne4DoQ0s7YhAklEU19xuhufWIFKk3dT0GqtWUA757LihzVbkh1njV260aBfj70nmPDQUGPggUzn1S6OlnysYrt2XHUwK84JnrgCRG8XVrxM-EpquaswuRrxcxT09ZJGJniNak3CvAiV3l2IkodskI1qXxPpMDMgDrebwdd0Dm-7ElcGbJz9L/s2104/20240204_155356.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2104" data-original-width="1288" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjo7LiCJM-gne4DoQ0s7YhAklEU19xuhufWIFKk3dT0GqtWUA757LihzVbkh1njV260aBfj70nmPDQUGPggUzn1S6OlnysYrt2XHUwK84JnrgCRG8XVrxM-EpquaswuRrxcxT09ZJGJniNak3CvAiV3l2IkodskI1qXxPpMDMgDrebwdd0Dm-7ElcGbJz9L/w392-h640/20240204_155356.jpg" width="392" /></a></div>I did stabilize the button bands with petersham ribbon as per usual. Some of the other versions I've see showed that this button band is very stretchy so the buttons seem to be pulling if the sweater is more fitted. Petersham ribbon solves that problem and I think it just cleaned everything up so nicely.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHiTi-z1I6FEXMReeGhusNvGThlsb5SLmWvA7r4kKD_YZP7Fy5iV8yxT4cb77QgQyPPEdfkMSXbG6EbTlUsBPUQtnnKvojrg8JlwQTwkI4ySXpgPJt7LfSkwR0tUv7wy958dOzF947hJAuRQNXuRrSUG-nPfsNjae39Y2UTxBmKGiOcJKX6OW8UipfEUiS/s1600/20240204_155331.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1584" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHiTi-z1I6FEXMReeGhusNvGThlsb5SLmWvA7r4kKD_YZP7Fy5iV8yxT4cb77QgQyPPEdfkMSXbG6EbTlUsBPUQtnnKvojrg8JlwQTwkI4ySXpgPJt7LfSkwR0tUv7wy958dOzF947hJAuRQNXuRrSUG-nPfsNjae39Y2UTxBmKGiOcJKX6OW8UipfEUiS/w634-h640/20240204_155331.jpg" width="634" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Realistically this is how I will wear the sweater in real life and I like how it looks unbuttoned as well. I managed to finish an adorable Valentine's gift for my girls. I'll post about all the particulars soon. I also finished my Hockey Sock today, so I will post about those here soon.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiX0u1nzEhVpmh4ruPIqphEFKGWSmENhpUobvznQiPXLXQFRN1o3_x8fTzztfsZwZPClgRQSqfa_IK_PcDru00weToS8T_Qqj0AQo7pYCvn1f7wTDJxP9UGBtIG6HOq-cV4tJv2wVq4fuHyf3l3YKLT_kluObtwUfL6Za1TK2Np3APMq8c19OC6AGd8st7p/s3024/20240214_160911.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2520" data-original-width="3024" height="534" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiX0u1nzEhVpmh4ruPIqphEFKGWSmENhpUobvznQiPXLXQFRN1o3_x8fTzztfsZwZPClgRQSqfa_IK_PcDru00weToS8T_Qqj0AQo7pYCvn1f7wTDJxP9UGBtIG6HOq-cV4tJv2wVq4fuHyf3l3YKLT_kluObtwUfL6Za1TK2Np3APMq8c19OC6AGd8st7p/w640-h534/20240214_160911.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><p>The other day I had knit my socks so much that i had a tender divot in my ring finger and had to stop knitting, lol. Thankfully, I don't hold circular needles in the same way as DPNs, so I decided to use this as an opportunity to cast on the Ishbel shawl. This yarn is even more beautiful knitted up than it was in the skein, and this project is pretty mindless since the body is just a stockinette triangular shawl. This will be a great one to be my grab and go easy project after the socks are done, which is great because I was honestly a bit worried as to what I could be in the middle of after the socks were finished. I'm excited to watch this one grow.</p><p>That's really all i have to report on this week, which feels like I'm missing something after having so many things to post for a while. I do have a big surprise coming on Friday, so stay tuned for that. I hope everyone is having a great Valentine's Day.</p>Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13488541306043317638noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3949414890922711309.post-78958537117717449942024-02-09T09:00:00.003-05:002024-02-09T09:00:00.372-05:00FO: Belladonna Cardigan<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4sNXs6DA0Ux1FiNYJRKnfzTI7Io-Y31elKO0tVZQ3TlEqtUTtjmvMfgp51n2-NMW5A0hcqs36pz4wdiug1euWjtjqa3D2_zGWHtqKX_q8VaEYO0x5AyUt31iqpFq822cMHFj6yF_D5DV-SifMA8LFcGEKG4cEJGn58-kFWg7zHMEzz80Gy36L4KbR-bc3/s1430/20240207_123830.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="1430" height="572" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4sNXs6DA0Ux1FiNYJRKnfzTI7Io-Y31elKO0tVZQ3TlEqtUTtjmvMfgp51n2-NMW5A0hcqs36pz4wdiug1euWjtjqa3D2_zGWHtqKX_q8VaEYO0x5AyUt31iqpFq822cMHFj6yF_D5DV-SifMA8LFcGEKG4cEJGn58-kFWg7zHMEzz80Gy36L4KbR-bc3/w640-h572/20240207_123830.jpg" width="640" /></a></p><p>Now that I've posted all my Christmas gifts (and I finally got pictures of this), I can finally post about my last make of 2023 - <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/belladonna-7" target="_blank">The Belladonna Cardigan</a>. I had a goal to finish this before the end of the year, and then I got sick on Christmas, which facilitated several days where I only wanted to knit, and I got it done, lol. I don't recommend this method, but it did work well. I managed to knit a sleeve a day and got her done.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVVnAS45VOM9ITGFVWS14hqTWj8ri81yHnQFs02U4KmTOqyXxdE-83OJ09PUqaboZB-9s3YcXGgu-qHO267XNYnD2E2gIkSERtZYSZDZOUnMLrlnpeXnspKTbztjbBM9CV916Ndo0byz_ljW2LgAwXr0-GFZ2iQAb52DAiy-d7Rqpode2JRhTXBauj1h-1/s1324/20240207_123936.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1286" data-original-width="1324" height="622" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVVnAS45VOM9ITGFVWS14hqTWj8ri81yHnQFs02U4KmTOqyXxdE-83OJ09PUqaboZB-9s3YcXGgu-qHO267XNYnD2E2gIkSERtZYSZDZOUnMLrlnpeXnspKTbztjbBM9CV916Ndo0byz_ljW2LgAwXr0-GFZ2iQAb52DAiy-d7Rqpode2JRhTXBauj1h-1/w640-h622/20240207_123936.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>This project started back in October and was formulated around some stash yarn. I was given 3 skeins of this Dream in Color Classy yarn in the Spring Tickle colorway and I love a challenge for making a sweater out of just 3 skeins of worsted weight yarn. This yarn is just lovely - it's a hand dyed tonal green with flecks of browns throughout and I just love it. I was listening to the audiobook of Frankenstein when I started this, so the color felt very apropos. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8IJQSJSIBN5EiFkPKNThuKNIETF6uaKzF5nMfBzkPjXN0n6ur9vU-UT5v23MI5HuK9mW_SlLZCwa8tbGig0NUHVev0U0y9Aiw4LI5694at59nAI6H_Y2ovBdzIYYD0Rmwu60Lr4HnBXQXSNDPF6rp1JqlBnk4I1k_O-MBxOZy-AJAC7IZzafLG2vCzqOB/s1358/20240207_123948.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1288" data-original-width="1358" height="608" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8IJQSJSIBN5EiFkPKNThuKNIETF6uaKzF5nMfBzkPjXN0n6ur9vU-UT5v23MI5HuK9mW_SlLZCwa8tbGig0NUHVev0U0y9Aiw4LI5694at59nAI6H_Y2ovBdzIYYD0Rmwu60Lr4HnBXQXSNDPF6rp1JqlBnk4I1k_O-MBxOZy-AJAC7IZzafLG2vCzqOB/w640-h608/20240207_123948.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>Now enter my usual designer for limited yarn - Andi Satterlund. I grabbed this pattern before she closed up shop for good and I'm so glad I did, but sadly it is no longer available to purchase. The pattern is a cropped, fitted, 50s style cardigan with lace panels. There is a larger lace panel for the front and back and then a smaller one for the sides. I love this style of sweater, so I was keen to make this pattern up at last. Unfortunately, this sweater was a bit more of a mental workout than I was expecting. The lace charts are very easy, but they are SO SIMILAR to each other. Despite my best efforts, I could never remember which row I had just done because everything is so close from one line to the next. I had to actually mark which row I was on in each chart as I went and then erase that and mark the next one or else I had to rip back because I messed up. This happened a lot, which is why this sweater took so long to finish. <br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1LSkl4Gb5UfJgwzFtKMIQCDQBuPT28w38iQhbESpbN7Redpd_bb2QgEunlKp6eHK1mngR58LCDyYhjzCmk7mQ5xXsYF837FUHCfB1rJfOTN9MpkvRaa-0vbEQYsvNr11gsD1j5v889WttdF2chplRhpRM0oX7KNFN6tS2i9ZpS0uN1gJPGT3NGCoL9kTs/s1320/20240207_124009.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1288" data-original-width="1320" height="624" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1LSkl4Gb5UfJgwzFtKMIQCDQBuPT28w38iQhbESpbN7Redpd_bb2QgEunlKp6eHK1mngR58LCDyYhjzCmk7mQ5xXsYF837FUHCfB1rJfOTN9MpkvRaa-0vbEQYsvNr11gsD1j5v889WttdF2chplRhpRM0oX7KNFN6tS2i9ZpS0uN1gJPGT3NGCoL9kTs/w640-h624/20240207_124009.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>Since I've made a lot of Andi's patterns, I've managed to really hone in the fit for myself. This time I decided to cast on the size Small for the shoulder area and then increase out to Medium at the bust, which really worked a treat for my narrow shoulders. Since this lace is so stretchy, I honestly could have made the shoulders even narrower, but this is definitely very good as it is too. I also extended the torso a bit to reach my natural waist, which is always a gamble when I'm working with limited yarn, but it worked out just fine. The shaping for this design is done in the purl channels on the front and back and it looks like darts, which I think is really neat. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxpEyCiHBpoTzZQH8SG4bqcps4BUz8kNPSjROJV5VBV1JRXj3hSA-CmnFrOwQqJ9mmTIDfjEOeeF6OlFqtRTZe9pUTqMX8zVFiFKjWtO5-iw00b0OaqNYQmEvoZzz0D8o1X4VQspWPfBJmyvEdWcllinq4-p4pLzjdW4YgQ3DxzyEkGeSNgnxe2s3DVv8f/s1464/20240204_160148.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1464" data-original-width="1288" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxpEyCiHBpoTzZQH8SG4bqcps4BUz8kNPSjROJV5VBV1JRXj3hSA-CmnFrOwQqJ9mmTIDfjEOeeF6OlFqtRTZe9pUTqMX8zVFiFKjWtO5-iw00b0OaqNYQmEvoZzz0D8o1X4VQspWPfBJmyvEdWcllinq4-p4pLzjdW4YgQ3DxzyEkGeSNgnxe2s3DVv8f/w564-h640/20240204_160148.jpg" width="564" /></a></div>One drawback with jumping right in on a hand dyed yarn is that there can be variations between the skeins even in the same dye lot. Just under my bust, you can see the the lower skein is a smidge darker. Oddly this isn't as big of a deal as it could have been because of where this line hits - I think it kind of just looks like a shadow. I wish I had thought to alternate skeins when I started the project, but oh well.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0g7i5qnzF62_RloRbv-RkNHjy7R2c2DowwxXDKUssHak4AvZbOQbZtsVVj6zDbcjnRrDzSK_jDaEatUoVOCZmRQIgHcvXV51SvOQCu_WvQZahXjiAcq-lRPxPHNfKJIrkQsNh6yw20W7v9B5FJea014F43UKtfoslQkLufmqipxXqfhXT-GmYmMv5Nhwc/s1524/20240204_160206.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1524" data-original-width="1288" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0g7i5qnzF62_RloRbv-RkNHjy7R2c2DowwxXDKUssHak4AvZbOQbZtsVVj6zDbcjnRrDzSK_jDaEatUoVOCZmRQIgHcvXV51SvOQCu_WvQZahXjiAcq-lRPxPHNfKJIrkQsNh6yw20W7v9B5FJea014F43UKtfoslQkLufmqipxXqfhXT-GmYmMv5Nhwc/w540-h640/20240204_160206.jpg" width="540" /></a></div>The sleeves are always the final part I knit on stash bust projects and this was the length I could get out of the amount of yarn I had, which I think turned out great. I love elbow length sleeves. The sleeve construction is neat too - you actually knit from the inside out so you can get even purls on the outside without worrying about tension. I think the sleeves really show off the tonal aspect of this yarn.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-eK7BjCMl-_bphgW_9HbAwIr3QJxZZ3FHZSom7S5ct5Q9-bLNVhHIMfwEGkbeYVd8ThvMqhTcTuooRTA-_wSZ6zARQenqBnRSgvLrY4D3rqvT0tTlftsdVhQgAoFRrNYW1zUTp1pWMH7PbFdHyij3Uw1GZsvRyoEEZS33FL72e9gMgkMn8p8jJ_dlOV5Y/s2264/20240204_160453.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2264" data-original-width="1288" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-eK7BjCMl-_bphgW_9HbAwIr3QJxZZ3FHZSom7S5ct5Q9-bLNVhHIMfwEGkbeYVd8ThvMqhTcTuooRTA-_wSZ6zARQenqBnRSgvLrY4D3rqvT0tTlftsdVhQgAoFRrNYW1zUTp1pWMH7PbFdHyij3Uw1GZsvRyoEEZS33FL72e9gMgkMn8p8jJ_dlOV5Y/w364-h640/20240204_160453.jpg" width="364" /></a></div>The buttons bands are lined with my usual rayon petersham ribbon in a matching color. I had to restock my stash of ribbon and I grabbed the next several colors I will need to make shipping worth it, so this is thankfully an exact match and looks very nice if I do say so myself. The buttons are some nice mother of pearl style ones from my stash that have just a hint of the yellow flash they sometimes can get, which compliments the yarn wonderfully. I'm really happy with how these look and that I didn't have to go out in search of matching buttons. Yay stash!<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmjzCOfkz_1PTwk76Jc1zPu7gEHHDSSVMq7Ex62cib3a_h5slf6sWYFbrmt44WHSXMVw1iJririXPJrAbg6p62fEOq_4kGYuqk9dvi04ha8Dd1PCR9o8Lj4KJTyjcDvxL_0SPNZMDdZBR8SocNAiWK-ONaHWltgS3Bc8IpZM6FPzRtfUyeltK6imBG3BnR/s1500/20240204_160513.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1500" data-original-width="1288" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmjzCOfkz_1PTwk76Jc1zPu7gEHHDSSVMq7Ex62cib3a_h5slf6sWYFbrmt44WHSXMVw1iJririXPJrAbg6p62fEOq_4kGYuqk9dvi04ha8Dd1PCR9o8Lj4KJTyjcDvxL_0SPNZMDdZBR8SocNAiWK-ONaHWltgS3Bc8IpZM6FPzRtfUyeltK6imBG3BnR/w550-h640/20240204_160513.jpg" width="550" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Realistically, this is how I will wear this sweater, and I like it this way too. I think the fit is great and the yarn is even more lovely after blocking - I don't know that I've had any other yarn bloom and soften this much with blocking before, truly. The texture change of this was a wonderful bonus. I'm glad I decided to make this up entirely from stash and I look forward to figuring out more outfits to wear this with in the future.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><p><b><u>Summary:</u></b></p><p><b>Yarn:</b> 3 skeins of Dream in Color Classy in the Spring Tickle colorway -<b> Free</b></p><p><b>Pattern: </b><a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/belladonna-7" target="_blank">Belladona</a> by Andi Satterlund</p><p><b>Notions: </b>1 yard petersham ribbon - <b>$6.50</b>, 7 buttons - <b>$3.00</b></p><p><b>Time: 2.5 months</b></p><p><b>Total Cost: $ 9.50</b></p>Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13488541306043317638noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3949414890922711309.post-57177370517350279652024-02-07T09:19:00.001-05:002024-02-08T09:28:39.565-05:00WIP Wednesday: Socks and Shawls and Swatches<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZfge2yeq-PUSzTEgh98iQA_HoP8WO_nQsJ7KbOS_GVVxT0QM46UgJ8RQAPlfCxRtRs0rvya5BM60OytE5UIQk5O6UyIYXAaNbQid-z-3EAsQQJj3aXZh-s5wIKY96aAN7zywCpa1sdGATVr1oa2OxKQEsw0lZEk-6WrRrLAvp4DG0HqmgPh46N0rhsCQu/s3048/20240207_110411.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3048" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZfge2yeq-PUSzTEgh98iQA_HoP8WO_nQsJ7KbOS_GVVxT0QM46UgJ8RQAPlfCxRtRs0rvya5BM60OytE5UIQk5O6UyIYXAaNbQid-z-3EAsQQJj3aXZh-s5wIKY96aAN7zywCpa1sdGATVr1oa2OxKQEsw0lZEk-6WrRrLAvp4DG0HqmgPh46N0rhsCQu/w634-h640/20240207_110411.jpg" width="634" /></a></div>This week I have been determined to finish my old sock project so I can start a new one. I've honestly had no other projects I could really work on that I'm in the middle of, so I managed to finish the first sock in just a few days and now I am 2 inches into the cuff on the second sock. Honestly, the pattern placement on this striping yarn could not have turned out better if I tried. I'm very pleased with how this turned out and now I'm just focused on replicating it. Hopefully I can slap this one out in a few days and have this project completely finished.<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMB5EqODlH8nC3yQXPzP4Eie2NnLstbgaY6k40CwLkQrPhad_s3Qh8Gg4dDG060mGspZxePRMybEIPopHA04X8xgZmd8X-kdo15X-g_wfp3WLisQcFn5W0KPRGuoMJvpWre4ek1gf5iHPfiY29km-kRGTVjBqZjnX075BH9RTGJRVqTu4J9BZMtjzjAGNY/s2784/20240207_110500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2724" data-original-width="2784" height="626" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMB5EqODlH8nC3yQXPzP4Eie2NnLstbgaY6k40CwLkQrPhad_s3Qh8Gg4dDG060mGspZxePRMybEIPopHA04X8xgZmd8X-kdo15X-g_wfp3WLisQcFn5W0KPRGuoMJvpWre4ek1gf5iHPfiY29km-kRGTVjBqZjnX075BH9RTGJRVqTu4J9BZMtjzjAGNY/w640-h626/20240207_110500.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div>After talking about fighting cast-on-itis last week, I have now cast on almost all the items I mentioned in that post, lol. After finishing the first sock and starting the second, I found myself pretty restless. It's not that I dislike the sock - I actually don't have second sock syndrome, which is great - but I had been knitting that sock all day and I just wanted a change for the night. This lead to me winding up the yarn for my <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/ishbel" target="_blank">Ishbel</a>, swatching my <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/rose-street-cardigan" target="_blank">Rose Street Cardigan</a> again and blocking it, and pulling out the patterns for the next few socks I want to make. I get like this when I don't have any ongoing projects to pick up and it's been quite a long time since I found myself so much without choices of things to grab and bring with me. I don't like it, lol. So I've been focusing on the socks but at night I am starting the other projects to give myself more options. I think once I have the Rose Street officially going I won't feel like this anymore. We will see.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBGq-xYByHi0BgyS3dAoeJSUUaTwwAMDdhcTf4WihzJNNTVFx6onf2kovgnZwqS_VJREDon2K12Vbg3L0xMblL_sMnb0AorR5hiSx90jOTODk8o6EmKRaawfI1EsDi1GklOSdqfFNhpC0mX9Sfzetux09pTS5Dw_PxJwR5PVw2PuxzXS3apRVOvGH6LtmI/s2562/20240207_110531.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2454" data-original-width="2562" height="614" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBGq-xYByHi0BgyS3dAoeJSUUaTwwAMDdhcTf4WihzJNNTVFx6onf2kovgnZwqS_VJREDon2K12Vbg3L0xMblL_sMnb0AorR5hiSx90jOTODk8o6EmKRaawfI1EsDi1GklOSdqfFNhpC0mX9Sfzetux09pTS5Dw_PxJwR5PVw2PuxzXS3apRVOvGH6LtmI/w640-h614/20240207_110531.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div>Tuesday night I realized that it was only a week before Valentine's Day and I had planned on making my kids a present, so I needed to get cracking. I grabbed some stash acrylic yarns and started the <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/coo-and-coy" target="_blank">Coo and Coy</a> pattern by Anna Hrachovec. It's two birds that when you put them together they make a heart. So cute! I got one of the bodies done, so now it just needs wings and a beak and whatnot. Should be pretty quick and I'm excited to finally make this pattern.</div><div><br /></div><div>I also really want to sew but I just haven't managed to make myself fix that New England dress yet. It's hanging on the form and taunting me. Very annoying. I need to get the sewing bug back because I really have so many things I would like to make and wear. Hopefully I can get back in the swing soon.</div><div><br /></div><div>So that's my week thus far :) There's also been a lot of gardening and another surprise in the works. That's my thought at least. I haven't been having a really great time lately, yet whenever I saw this adorable bee pattern on Barbara Prime's Ravelry page, it made me smile. It's just so adorable. Since I had finished the knitting on my Mohn Cardigan, I bought the pattern magazine just for this pattern and cast on the next day. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEia96AjSHPSo2sFaI-jA_nOrH6qE9gFZ8ePKGFSR04t0XgpN5DvsNUwCHZn_a2FhD8iBzNUw5eMse5czb6d4P1AGxouIzmOcUSo299i1L-CdlVW9Suce2aVor1XORAZOAL8wgYXjmNARUPc8ck87xLi-Dop8H3VLHuZXWOs8cRPD0bP1DqMh3frctdYbT5A/s2820/20240202_140119.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2820" data-original-width="2772" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEia96AjSHPSo2sFaI-jA_nOrH6qE9gFZ8ePKGFSR04t0XgpN5DvsNUwCHZn_a2FhD8iBzNUw5eMse5czb6d4P1AGxouIzmOcUSo299i1L-CdlVW9Suce2aVor1XORAZOAL8wgYXjmNARUPc8ck87xLi-Dop8H3VLHuZXWOs8cRPD0bP1DqMh3frctdYbT5A/w630-h640/20240202_140119.jpg" width="630" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This is the <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/bunblebee-and-flower" target="_blank">Bunblebee and Flower</a> pattern by Barbara Prime and it's in the December 2023 issue of Knit Now magazine (issue 163). This is a British knitting magazine, but thanks to the wonders of the internet I was able to download a digital copy for myself online for just $7.99. Gotta love it. The issue does have some other lovely patterns too, so I will be exploring that further in the future for sure. This is a "bun"blebee because it is bun shaped. She has a series of animals called bunimals that are all based off this idea and I just love it. This is the first one I've knit, and I have to say I think a bumblebee is the perfect animal to make bun shaped. It just adds to the chubby cuteness.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZWoXUuuUcjATnvaEbtTLVY773aOlEer2wkyPyXawgiTFcnzo-URIIC2Cd95K5SNFE-R7iv5xJUgdlIhc9O4b_MgDCYuKT_zPEMxd9wigTmAVrWJDdCVsRNGHQdj99xYdnpvNLUX-wRHj4v9pMZdnguucnyC-4dkaoOyULaUUORXBflyAYsVHoxR9dyC4G/s2760/20240202_140129.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2700" data-original-width="2760" height="626" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZWoXUuuUcjATnvaEbtTLVY773aOlEer2wkyPyXawgiTFcnzo-URIIC2Cd95K5SNFE-R7iv5xJUgdlIhc9O4b_MgDCYuKT_zPEMxd9wigTmAVrWJDdCVsRNGHQdj99xYdnpvNLUX-wRHj4v9pMZdnguucnyC-4dkaoOyULaUUORXBflyAYsVHoxR9dyC4G/w640-h626/20240202_140129.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">As always with toy projects, I grabbed yarn from my stash for this baby. The black, yellow, and white are all I Love This Yarn from Hobby Lobby and the blue is a mystery acrylic I got at a thrift store way back when. I just picked the blue to match the color of the eyes :) I made my bee in the round instead of seamed. I've made a lot of Barbara's patterns in the past and she is definitely pro-seaming, but having just seamed my entire Mohn cardigan the night before, I just wasn't feeling up to it. This bee is shaped like a ball, so what better shape to knit in the round, right? Very easy to change and I had no issues.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglokL3JDhY49ua6EBvMUiV5Yw2RPQa0N_FLMKqismiWysgctcd1dg0oE2wsSC8a3g62HhdtCYNTwpQ-aDZuwWs49wDmJa3AbqyVftXz3Wa4gO7fB2BtXIL-Gt5M3Vv-Xbqr_RzuRKIE_H8nROPR7YJrLokPKAjZTEdvK2QkrSLED3ip4oSbkPu9eBQ2MHZ/s2784/20240202_140149.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2784" data-original-width="2748" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglokL3JDhY49ua6EBvMUiV5Yw2RPQa0N_FLMKqismiWysgctcd1dg0oE2wsSC8a3g62HhdtCYNTwpQ-aDZuwWs49wDmJa3AbqyVftXz3Wa4gO7fB2BtXIL-Gt5M3Vv-Xbqr_RzuRKIE_H8nROPR7YJrLokPKAjZTEdvK2QkrSLED3ip4oSbkPu9eBQ2MHZ/w632-h640/20240202_140149.jpg" width="632" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I will admit that since my bee was knitted in the round that my rear end doesn't have quite as tight of stitches as the rest of the bee from before I added stuffing, but it's still fine. It's a toy and there are no holes, lol. It's fine. The one complaint I get from everyone is that this bee doesn't have a stinger. The pattern didn't include one and I just didn't feel like adding one. This is a kindly bee. No stinging.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_ZH9e0eRxTAD1tkb28lwq3yU0ucG0Z1aOMBHbjauVfp40EFpsFJruPK4KZesi5pXdTe8ZFDN3IxSi6CVZk0smTnNGKz3uhg1ED2cceHIJKHLsJVLFJtQModSm1raiziGA9PUohW-nlFRl2tdi4XkrXr6x-Goh9jQWuAwnMxeYk6_rAE2ogRop9rYgPtAs/s2610/20240202_140204.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2556" data-original-width="2610" height="626" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_ZH9e0eRxTAD1tkb28lwq3yU0ucG0Z1aOMBHbjauVfp40EFpsFJruPK4KZesi5pXdTe8ZFDN3IxSi6CVZk0smTnNGKz3uhg1ED2cceHIJKHLsJVLFJtQModSm1raiziGA9PUohW-nlFRl2tdi4XkrXr6x-Goh9jQWuAwnMxeYk6_rAE2ogRop9rYgPtAs/w640-h626/20240202_140204.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The bottom does show my jogs from knitting in the round, but it's the bottom so it doesn't bother me. I just learned a cool trick to avoid this in the future, so that's nice. The feet were actually the last part I knit - after I had already done the flower. The pattern gives nice details about how to space out the feet when sewing them on, so I just went by the photos and referenced the distances to make sure I was getting somewhat close.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBHLLy-pZ1oQpfBYSNATDvop1fK3yhlt7Z4b42JwkM0a7FskzbBRFPE6v98Zdg_nl25nIbc_g-VQDq2gOLax-FmiK8ZumWWVFxXhyphenhyphenSsmaEuoP1LTkMwDlRo0Kv39sPxfN07W-KX2PtFb9bsDmw-yRqcXGoZVwsXchEYYFfMtc1pPB5vKExGNg2CVFLd-kd/s2736/20240202_140048.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2550" data-original-width="2736" height="596" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBHLLy-pZ1oQpfBYSNATDvop1fK3yhlt7Z4b42JwkM0a7FskzbBRFPE6v98Zdg_nl25nIbc_g-VQDq2gOLax-FmiK8ZumWWVFxXhyphenhyphenSsmaEuoP1LTkMwDlRo0Kv39sPxfN07W-KX2PtFb9bsDmw-yRqcXGoZVwsXchEYYFfMtc1pPB5vKExGNg2CVFLd-kd/w640-h596/20240202_140048.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>The flower construction is pretty cool, but it honestly took as long to make the flower as it did to make the bee. I don't know why this surprised me because it had to be big enough to fit the bee, but you know, lol. I love all the details of Barbara's patterns, but mentally it feels like the accessories take so much longer since in my mind when the animal is done the project is done. Does that make sense? I still finished this in just 2 days, so I don't know what I'm complaining about.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9s0LAN6WLDQT14Ns7KppPYCQCYce-ItRXXLQ0TzhqTnLY5-9XGI22FolyUHvRjnWEGckcXVoCESb0BlTHm5LfWVxowa1G2BcCvj06wAImXgq7kIGVFzWOkK5DvUZ2guUCSe7yKWVUJYjG4VyMPpnLBMqVMVXH7X9c04hEFqUwjvPhKK2TRhOaRJwJOxKK/s2454/20240202_140020.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2454" data-original-width="2454" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9s0LAN6WLDQT14Ns7KppPYCQCYce-ItRXXLQ0TzhqTnLY5-9XGI22FolyUHvRjnWEGckcXVoCESb0BlTHm5LfWVxowa1G2BcCvj06wAImXgq7kIGVFzWOkK5DvUZ2guUCSe7yKWVUJYjG4VyMPpnLBMqVMVXH7X9c04hEFqUwjvPhKK2TRhOaRJwJOxKK/w640-h640/20240202_140020.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>So that's my bee :) This project did exactly what I needed it to do and it cheers me up every time I see it. My kid love it, I think it's adorable. All around a very adorable palette cleansing project. I managed to finish this in less than a month, which is still pretty shocking to me. I got it completely knit and seamed Sunday night and it is currently blocking. Now I just have to make my ribbon button bands and she is totally done. I finished the knitting on Saturday night, which left me with only a sock project to knit and I just didn't feel like it - so I cast on a toy!</p><p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiU-61zqmj87acRMkR50opBAjTCUyJUWdsiCLNdWDaUR8zGFZUqe8sluZx3X83uBJAVW3VIAVzX0qtc3_VYNpLHqvyAWW3Me32_VneLSilVjpWOr2dSHyb-2sOQ6AE3_bNtGPKcCAzooB5zCpFxGyYbAPjWF4ai2HGMD25CUsAUHYwLR59EzxOMNrZ7l74Y/s3024/20240131_081225.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2783" data-original-width="3024" height="588" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiU-61zqmj87acRMkR50opBAjTCUyJUWdsiCLNdWDaUR8zGFZUqe8sluZx3X83uBJAVW3VIAVzX0qtc3_VYNpLHqvyAWW3Me32_VneLSilVjpWOr2dSHyb-2sOQ6AE3_bNtGPKcCAzooB5zCpFxGyYbAPjWF4ai2HGMD25CUsAUHYwLR59EzxOMNrZ7l74Y/w640-h588/20240131_081225.jpg" width="640" /></a></p><p>Between Sunday and last night, I knit up this adorable bee project. Every time I look at this pattern, I smile, so I just bit the bullet and knit it up. Now I smile when I see it in person too, lol. This project definitely served its purpose of cheering me up in a hard time. I'll post all the details about it soon, but I definitely love this one :)</p><p>After my deliberations in the last post about all the projects I want to cast on, I have finally decided to go with my original plan for my Rose Street Cardigan. It's really a toss up between the two yarns I was contemplating (<a href="https://shrsl.com/4c3vl" target="_blank">Knit Picks Stroll</a> in Duchess Heather or <a href="https://shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=726901&u=652021&m=59159&urllink=www%2Eknitpicks%2Ecom%2Fsearch%3Fq%3Dfelici&afftrack=" target="_blank">Knit Picks Felici</a> in Dragonfruit). I tried looking through my collection of sweaters that still fit me to see where I had a gap, but that didn't help. In the end I really go for more cool toned clothes, so I decided to go with the purple for that reason. The Dragonfruit color would go as well, but I just need to start this project, lol. Purple it is! I still need to knit a new swatch last night and get the calculations going, so this will be my main sweater project now.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3yNNKZOqv9KPNsSLotl3QMQ-Gpqg_N8xL56YRskdQGf0203JFh_BqLNDg_ylP-nhZND21DEmTKVOUB0tHMQGOA6NHLr6prTjWar8BTNHsh_knT6oWSgSBMV8R-846mQPjk4zlHiswxaauKbCjsPwKC8o4AaWBuc8CsNEyaapTxjcZOStey2wSxXb4_KKQ/s2958/20240131_081256.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2746" data-original-width="2958" height="594" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3yNNKZOqv9KPNsSLotl3QMQ-Gpqg_N8xL56YRskdQGf0203JFh_BqLNDg_ylP-nhZND21DEmTKVOUB0tHMQGOA6NHLr6prTjWar8BTNHsh_knT6oWSgSBMV8R-846mQPjk4zlHiswxaauKbCjsPwKC8o4AaWBuc8CsNEyaapTxjcZOStey2wSxXb4_KKQ/w640-h594/20240131_081256.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><p>With finishing my bee, I also grabbed my Jaywalker socks I cast on in December of 2022. I'm just mentally determined to get these done so they can stop plaguing me. I'm honestly not sure what it is about this project that has me never reaching for it. Is it that I've knit this pattern before? But I've knit the same vanilla sock pattern several times and that has never been a problem before. Is it that I'm not thrilled by the yarn? I just really can't say. Either way, I want this project to be done, so I think this is going to be my main focus for a short while. That's the thing with socks - when you actually hunker down and focus on getting them done, they really do go fast. I'm also knitting this with a heel flap and gusset as the pattern is written - last time I changed for an after-thought heel to avoid disrupting the striping pattern. Since then I've discovered that I really prefer the feel of a heel flap and gusset when wearing the socks, so this time I'm just letting the chips fall where they may on the striping. I'm thinking it will work out fine in this sock because the speckled sections are so wide.</p><p>My New England dress is still hanging out on my dress form thinking about what it's done. I need to finish that one too so I can move on with my life, lol. But knitting is going very well!</p><p>How are things with you this first month of the new year? Getting anything made up?</p>Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13488541306043317638noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3949414890922711309.post-68275850490674148412024-01-29T10:23:00.001-05:002024-01-29T10:23:20.074-05:00I'm Fighting Cast-On-Itis<p>I've been having a lovely time knitting my Mohn Cardigan, and I've managed to stay completely monogamous while knitting it, which has made this project just fly by. As I near the end of this sweater though, I am entertaining what to start next, and let me tell you ... I just want to cast on all the things. After being a good girl and working through specific projects to completion before starting anything new for months and months now, I have quite the back up list of things I would really like to have in my life. I've done quite a few project planning posts since July when I started blogging again last spring (<a href="https://showandtellmeg.blogspot.com/2023/03/spring-2023-project-planning.html" target="_blank">here</a>, <a href="https://showandtellmeg.blogspot.com/2023/04/wip-wednesday-sweaters-socks-shawls-and.html" target="_blank">here</a>, <a href="https://showandtellmeg.blogspot.com/2023/05/wip-wednesday-vintage-knit-check-in-and.html" target="_blank">here</a>, <a href="https://showandtellmeg.blogspot.com/2023/07/summer-knitting-bug-dreams-of-knitting.html" target="_blank">here</a>, <a href="https://showandtellmeg.blogspot.com/2023/06/wip-wednesday-linen-obsession-and.html" target="_blank">here</a>, <a href="https://showandtellmeg.blogspot.com/2023/10/wip-wednesday-gift-planning-and-new.html" target="_blank">here</a>, <a href="https://showandtellmeg.blogspot.com/2023/12/wip-wednesday-back-to-what-i-want.html" target="_blank">here</a>, and <a href="https://showandtellmeg.blogspot.com/2023/12/top-of-23-next-years-goals.html" target="_blank">here</a> - goodness), and out of those planning posts with my knitting I have only made 3 of those things, lol. I'm a big believer that planning projects and acquiring the materials for them are a separate hobby from actually making things. And that's not even factoring in my sewing plans! This is just for knitting!</p><p>Anyway, I currently have a major internal struggle. I want to make all the things. I have yarn pulled out and paired with patterns in projects bags ready to go. I have swatches I made 8 months ago for a sweater that need to be redone. I have new projects I'm also excited about that I really want to cast on. In spite of all of this going on though, I have really enjoyed the speed with which I've been able to finish things lately because I was focusing on just that one project. I love efficiency, and the most efficient way to complete a project is definitely to not work on anything else until you finish the first one, you know? So the "responsible mom" side of me is not allowing my inner child to be wild and free, lol. I am going to allow myself to start more than one project because there are times when you can't carry around a sweater, but what to cast on? </p><p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGW5ZyvoWRllcRoOMyM9krFyZMSavtTkRTPa2VHilPkbw5uqUfSvkOhzWijjQWB72A-cwQJhvcPNJFWdo09AZJy2T1nRC4TEYGSrgPkdWzmFUzt3bIT_C1hBBBOtDW6nLCK6Xlr3Y2a1atq4fo2w7L9YTd1NxE-kdqy-MDZ-KG_iQKpMQS7iifhD8KidVK/s974/showandtellmeg.rosestreetplanning.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="637" data-original-width="974" height="418" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGW5ZyvoWRllcRoOMyM9krFyZMSavtTkRTPa2VHilPkbw5uqUfSvkOhzWijjQWB72A-cwQJhvcPNJFWdo09AZJy2T1nRC4TEYGSrgPkdWzmFUzt3bIT_C1hBBBOtDW6nLCK6Xlr3Y2a1atq4fo2w7L9YTd1NxE-kdqy-MDZ-KG_iQKpMQS7iifhD8KidVK/w640-h418/showandtellmeg.rosestreetplanning.jpg" width="640" /></a></p><p>The one definite project I will be starting is the <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/rose-street-cardigan" target="_blank">Rose Street Cardigan</a> from Squid's School of Vintage Knitting. I've been wanting to cast this on since last April, but I was being responsible and finishing my <a href="https://showandtellmeg.blogspot.com/2023/12/fo-susan-shaw-cardigan.html" target="_blank">Susan Shaw Cardigan</a> and then my 3 worsted weight sweaters from the end of the year. Now it is finally time, but I am having a quandary on my planned yarn. I still love my original plan of <a href="https://shrsl.com/4c3vl" target="_blank">Knit Picks Stroll</a> in the Duchess Heather colorway, but I was cleaning out my sewing room last weekend and came across my sweater quantity of <a href="https://shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=726901&u=652021&m=59159&urllink=www%2Eknitpicks%2Ecom%2Fsearch%3Fq%3Dfelici&afftrack=" target="_blank">Knit Picks Felici</a> (now discontinued) in the Dragonfruit colorway and it got the gears a'turning. I have always loved the yarn Sydney used for her example cardigan, but every time I look up that yarn she used (even on sale), I just can't justify spending $100 or more on yarn when I have so much. This yarn is very close in color though, so it would fill that gap in my mind. But I also love the duchess heather! lol I've been planning on the duchess heather so long that I don't know if I can abandon the idea now. I'm trying to look at my sweaters I have on hand that I still fit in so that I can decide which color would work best in my wardrobe.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1cRVR0mAt5XNACQmM_spc4US1_XsQmlEwB1LwuNe11G_D5q08jF-kN52nAN-UtabV472SrWOolgxa1ayTnOnCL5_VJVjaM3fgZpRiAF7IH_HiyHyTQjwljyUxcp3vU2aXoo6DS-oS54xl-e1JxzT-NqX6E-EA6FyPLk0ehyphenhypheniciTzeEE34EbsbeeDo9-V0/s604/showandtellmeg.chrysanthemumsockplan.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="373" data-original-width="604" height="396" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1cRVR0mAt5XNACQmM_spc4US1_XsQmlEwB1LwuNe11G_D5q08jF-kN52nAN-UtabV472SrWOolgxa1ayTnOnCL5_VJVjaM3fgZpRiAF7IH_HiyHyTQjwljyUxcp3vU2aXoo6DS-oS54xl-e1JxzT-NqX6E-EA6FyPLk0ehyphenhypheniciTzeEE34EbsbeeDo9-V0/w640-h396/showandtellmeg.chrysanthemumsockplan.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><p>I have some socks I really want to make, but the responsible part of me says I have to finish the socks I cast on over a year ago first. Realistically that means I would not get to use the socks I currently want to start until next year because we have such a short window of cold days here. This project came about because I realized that all my hand knit socks are crazy bright colors and I now have a pair of boots that would expose them. I grabbed the most neutral colored yarn in my stash - Morning Bright Organic Merino in the Moonlit colorway - and matched it with the <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/chrysanthemum-frutescens-socks" target="_blank">Chrysanthemum frutesens</a> pattern by Hunter Hammersen, but I still have just one leg done on my dragon fruit socks that I really should finish first.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUtnoNIvXkXYUDdpdOUU4l8_OjwUhg__Ihz4TChYeu7KacRKNIfmAM7OsQ-PlGfuscoauBX-827TXziu9ZWEMex-hR7wQixi2bIEUlcvlL12TDElqDiqwwD62BcnWuvPquZ51GaOb-QfoR5oOFl9EQQAVTxQJ86QDvYWvOtwLRyMdmBtJo3mOy8sd9ghny/s613/showandtellmeg.ishbelplans.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="426" data-original-width="613" height="444" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUtnoNIvXkXYUDdpdOUU4l8_OjwUhg__Ihz4TChYeu7KacRKNIfmAM7OsQ-PlGfuscoauBX-827TXziu9ZWEMex-hR7wQixi2bIEUlcvlL12TDElqDiqwwD62BcnWuvPquZ51GaOb-QfoR5oOFl9EQQAVTxQJ86QDvYWvOtwLRyMdmBtJo3mOy8sd9ghny/w640-h444/showandtellmeg.ishbelplans.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><p>I inexplicably love this one skein of sock yarn I was given - I have no idea what it is because there was no label, which is a bummer - but the color is just lovely. I can't even decide if this is a "good" color to be so close to my face, but I just really want to make the <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/ishbel" target="_blank">Ishbel</a> shawl with this. Almost all of my shawls have been made in variegated yarns, and while I enjoyed the projects and I love the yarn and everything, it <b>1)</b> doesn't really make the patterns on a shawl stand out and <b>2)</b> limits what the shawl can be worn with. I had a very hard time making an outfit for my <a href="https://showandtellmeg.blogspot.com/2023/08/fo-haruni-shawl.html" target="_blank">Haruni</a> shawl on a cold day a few weeks ago and I was pretty bummed. I started pulling out all of my hand knit shawls to see if another would work with my outfit and I didn't feel that any of them did. I don't mind them not matching when I'm outside and it's more of an outerwear item, but I was trying to wear it indoors with a black shirt. Anyway, I really want to use this yarn and I've been wanting to make up this pattern, so it seems like the perfect combo.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6HkGHH9eJFEaqTFE-g3afqxPFNGbESEs-UE4Ivt_IBFnIFBu3_10PvHYJCJyU68hyT2Y52pX3DZOzoPNJ36Xm0t7t3vyGyXnn998-mtVOMZF3_wjHaqRUiCpHyePHQAL7ubrj-lrFKw_dxe4PU-rZdEyCS_Z-hiHSkWzoE-vAKMc5ooqr24jgueEhlThD/s640/showandtellmeg.queenanneslacescarf.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="604" data-original-width="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6HkGHH9eJFEaqTFE-g3afqxPFNGbESEs-UE4Ivt_IBFnIFBu3_10PvHYJCJyU68hyT2Y52pX3DZOzoPNJ36Xm0t7t3vyGyXnn998-mtVOMZF3_wjHaqRUiCpHyePHQAL7ubrj-lrFKw_dxe4PU-rZdEyCS_Z-hiHSkWzoE-vAKMc5ooqr24jgueEhlThD/s16000/showandtellmeg.queenanneslacescarf.jpg" /></a></div><p>I also really want to make the <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/queen-annes-lace-scarf" target="_blank">Queen Anne's Lace Scarf</a> but make it in a thinner yarn and use it as a belt with my New England Dress to jazz it up at the waist. I've made the dress in plain black linen, which is great, but I fell like it's a nice opportunity to make a fun accessory. This would likely be a pretty quick project, so this may get started soon if I can just decide what yarn to use. </p><p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEin-oY3kInWnxepXH9eJUWP6PgSAIMfmEGSguGKeCrjSJuemR7KYAPeBZZhfWTkKC1Pt4Nu7GR5DU6p6mtDm6Ghe8Q2nNUmdrx-ZfiqeyJ7IvgLZXR6t2-m7KKjPFtVvS6MOFH-MEBuXj6rEoIfMlIbZCm9xORMulZf0yJCk-ukS9_6gXKDqh3EEC3AK_bR/s394/showandtellmeg.barbaraprimebeeandmammoth.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="265" data-original-width="394" height="430" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEin-oY3kInWnxepXH9eJUWP6PgSAIMfmEGSguGKeCrjSJuemR7KYAPeBZZhfWTkKC1Pt4Nu7GR5DU6p6mtDm6Ghe8Q2nNUmdrx-ZfiqeyJ7IvgLZXR6t2-m7KKjPFtVvS6MOFH-MEBuXj6rEoIfMlIbZCm9xORMulZf0yJCk-ukS9_6gXKDqh3EEC3AK_bR/w640-h430/showandtellmeg.barbaraprimebeeandmammoth.jpg" width="640" /></a></p><p>I very much have the itch to make a stuffed animal. It's been a long time since I made one just because I wanted to and not as a gift, so of course I printed out like 8 patterns to pick from, lol. I think I want to crochet something cute, which will be a very quick project, but I also really want to make the <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/woolly-mammoth-and-lucy" target="_blank">Woolly Mammoth</a> by Barbara Prime. But looking at Barbara's newer patterns, I absolutely love <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/bunblebee-and-flower" target="_blank">this chubby bee</a>, lol. I would have to buy the newest Knit Now Magazine to make him though, so I'm trying to decide. I also have promised my kids I will make our <a href="https://showandtellmeg.blogspot.com/2017/01/fo-fuzzy-mitten-2016-mystery-knit-along.html" target="_blank">Elf Doll</a> some clothes, lol. This is also just the short list - I have so many plans circulating in my head all the time that I would like to make up. *sigh* I just need to focus and make some real time decisions. Anyone else find themselves in this type of pickle?</p>Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13488541306043317638noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3949414890922711309.post-51329015781416847782024-01-26T09:00:00.003-05:002024-01-26T09:00:00.138-05:00FO: Last Minute Rainbow Beanies<p>What's a knitter to do when they finish all their Christmas gift knitting on time? Why... stress themselves out by starting a new project 2 days before Christmas of course! lol On December 21st, I took my kids to a local thrift store to pick out a present for each other (this worked great, by the way, because they had the fun of looking through everything and it also counted as a gift - win win), when I came across a bag with 2 skeins of this yarn along with coordinating eyelash yarn for just $2.00. Normally I would never go for this type of yarn because it just sits in my stash, but since I had finished everything else I wanted to make for the holiday, I figured I had enough time to whip out 2 bulky weight hats.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkU8kJxsm7Ex8gLpInlpsECC0LXqxfjwEpXuTnTBMCzk5tp6grl7M4-u9db3YPj4Hzia7qUsX97il4C_zf36blrCVVr9Q7gwTRi0JZ2MouaRXPCJLFXFNwZqPv39huMaxiEgC7tNDj3bBDML6dfOUFd3DfImb0ATCSi7HBatK0APe2VETT9y397NBfv5Sw/s2982/20231224_135610.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2646" data-original-width="2982" height="568" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkU8kJxsm7Ex8gLpInlpsECC0LXqxfjwEpXuTnTBMCzk5tp6grl7M4-u9db3YPj4Hzia7qUsX97il4C_zf36blrCVVr9Q7gwTRi0JZ2MouaRXPCJLFXFNwZqPv39huMaxiEgC7tNDj3bBDML6dfOUFd3DfImb0ATCSi7HBatK0APe2VETT9y397NBfv5Sw/w640-h568/20231224_135610.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The yarn is Yarn Bee Soft Illusion and this is the LA Cool colorway. They were different dye lots, which you can tell in the finished hats, but my kids actually don't seem to notice the difference because I have yet to hear them yell, "that's MY hat!" which is great. I was able to knit up one hat each evening on the 22nd and 23rd, so I got them done without my kids seeing them. This yarn is so squishy soft. The base yarn is buttery smooth already, but then the hairy bits are even softer. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjc42vA8ShdmqubbwRku1VflfbEYVtPPyi-PNk-ajUIf1TyP6pAPl3bbLlGDevN0dBN49jf-bE6aXJtsbFeeUS-ZRjii1xJXfpZfasqpzfSAtdO9fCBdeD6Ns5QFGlHStAGCX8MxbBGN80yP7LVAuQpRfncz05ddsfcyViP3gZiCL5GO1Y74-1zZzN7OJ23/s2232/20231225_154014.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2232" data-original-width="2178" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjc42vA8ShdmqubbwRku1VflfbEYVtPPyi-PNk-ajUIf1TyP6pAPl3bbLlGDevN0dBN49jf-bE6aXJtsbFeeUS-ZRjii1xJXfpZfasqpzfSAtdO9fCBdeD6Ns5QFGlHStAGCX8MxbBGN80yP7LVAuQpRfncz05ddsfcyViP3gZiCL5GO1Y74-1zZzN7OJ23/w624-h640/20231225_154014.jpg" width="624" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">On the 24th, I made the pom poms. I broke out my pom pom makers and made the largest size I had and I think they are a great size for 5 year olds. Making these was such a mess! Pom poms are a mess in general, but add in some eyelash yarn and woo boy. I tried to do all my cutting over a bag just to catch the inevitable threads and after that I was kind of buffing the pom pom with my hand to try and shake off the excess. I still find neon green threads around my house as my kids wear these. Anyway, this yarn is Premier Yarns Lash Lux Sequins in the Neon Green colorway, which is the perfect highlighter green and goes great with the crazy yarn from the hat. My kids watched me make the pom poms and got to help shake off the excess, but they didn't know what they were for.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1HGPsdpP6FtdhSKllTDUPyN5rlV5DShRTJAKPF36GKQ-5rnAhweLSjpliB4qgqqQME4udHSILj4HWsX7AYKMVzYnrc2bYXWULxcgzn9BvSqRX8ux8IYDt5sHvfeNLzzbHJz2koXBwcL0utko7561aVBnKgpAjOkMMtYaVw4nWL6cjpB1PMf2fmt8UbiqT/s2946/20231225_181250.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2946" data-original-width="2772" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1HGPsdpP6FtdhSKllTDUPyN5rlV5DShRTJAKPF36GKQ-5rnAhweLSjpliB4qgqqQME4udHSILj4HWsX7AYKMVzYnrc2bYXWULxcgzn9BvSqRX8ux8IYDt5sHvfeNLzzbHJz2koXBwcL0utko7561aVBnKgpAjOkMMtYaVw4nWL6cjpB1PMf2fmt8UbiqT/w602-h640/20231225_181250.jpg" width="602" /></a></div>I always try to make them something that they know is a present from me and not from Santa each year. I wrap these and set them near the Santa presents (our Santa does not wrap - it's liberating, you should try it) and they tore right into it this year and loved them. We don't really get much wear out of hats here in Central Florida, but they still love wearing them. I made them some <a href="https://showandtellmeg.blogspot.com/2023/04/fo-christmas-2021.html" target="_blank">Sesame Street Hats</a> 2 years ago and they still wear those to play pretty often, so I knew these fuzzy hats would be a hit. I have 1/4 skein left of this hairy yarn all together, which will probably languish in my stash for ages, lol. But I'm glad I found this yarn just in the nick of time to make this gift. Sometimes it's fun to just make a completely ridiculous hat for your kids, you know?<div><br /></div><div>And that completes my gift knitting from 2023! I have two other project that is technically a Christmas gift but I didn't make it until January and that was known and agreed upon with the recipients (It was their fault as much as mine, lol). All in all, I'm very happy with everything I managed to make this year. I'm glad that the kids were so happy with their gifts and that their quality was so nice. I guess knitting for almost 12 years has paid off. <p><b><u>Summary:</u></b></p><p><b>Yarn: </b>1.75 skeins of Yarn Bee Soft Illusion in the LA Cool colorway and 0.50 skeins of Premier Yarns Lash Lux Sequins in Neon Green - <b>$2.00</b></p><p><b>Pattern: </b><a href="https://www.ravelry.com/projects/Leenbacon/la-cool-hat" target="_blank">LA Cool Hat</a> by Leenbacon on Ravelry - <b>Free</b></p><p><b>Notions: </b>Thread</p><p><b>Time: </b>2 hours</p></div>Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13488541306043317638noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3949414890922711309.post-29798546813436214992024-01-24T09:00:00.001-05:002024-01-25T08:14:15.244-05:00WIP Wednesday: No Stop At Sleeve Island<p style="text-align: center;"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEht-3GwDv8P1l5DmdCIxT8azYRHMXPUJJZ8xIsaNQLYfLnLFsnc4UewqNip-ZJCSWqR_xW6HEPSJ8piMQbl-fxb-JJ4nEECCDtq3VhLmh5wxjAlxjypGk3ER0TVcUbXR5pqR7ZqodSFFHvhqZ1Ys3daPWEZTAeR8MANNqyUrSg7XMAU35PQKB8pVXtynen1/s3024/20240125_004534.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2790" data-original-width="3024" height="590" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEht-3GwDv8P1l5DmdCIxT8azYRHMXPUJJZ8xIsaNQLYfLnLFsnc4UewqNip-ZJCSWqR_xW6HEPSJ8piMQbl-fxb-JJ4nEECCDtq3VhLmh5wxjAlxjypGk3ER0TVcUbXR5pqR7ZqodSFFHvhqZ1Ys3daPWEZTAeR8MANNqyUrSg7XMAU35PQKB8pVXtynen1/w640-h590/20240125_004534.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;">Things have been moving right along with my Mohn Cardigan - I just finished the first sleeve :) I did have to fudge the sleeve head a little bit to get it to line up in my size, but it looks like it should still fit me fine. I got the bodice sewn to the skirt and pinned it on to check the fit before inserting the side zip ... only to discover that the 2.5 inches that I added to the length on this needs to be taken out. I'm seriously so confused with the length of things. It seems that it's the fit aspect I just cannot get right - I'm always either too long or too short. I'm thinking it is because of the shape of my front torso making it hard to define where my "waist" is when fitting, yet when I actually put a fitted garment on, it's obvious where that point is. Ugh. I'm in a pickle because I really want to sew things, yet I won't allow myself to start another project until I finish this one, but I just don't feel like sewing this one. Conundrum. I'm hoping I can muster up the will to undo the waist and shorten it soon so I can move on with my life.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">How are things going with your makes this week?</div>Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13488541306043317638noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3949414890922711309.post-27584529384822430782024-01-22T09:00:00.058-05:002024-01-22T09:00:00.141-05:00FO: Finger Knit Cushy Blanket<p>This project idea was hatched back in June when I came across 5 skeins of this enormous yarn in a thrift store. I'm not usually one for this huge yarn trend, but my mom had mentioned how she thought the chunky knit blankets were really cool and it lead to a whole discussion about how expensive the yarn is to make those and the idea seemed to dwindle away. So when I found a blanket worth of yarn for $5, I snapped it up and knew I wanted to make my parents this blanket sometime. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh74vYtJL8QBW623qDuAJ2SPdqA2QBvdeT1i7wXnehVCCQru4XPxf3zqByOe98e_DDPlYggOzhNQ5h9v_cHWpmxJpC8nWostNUxKfQzZ3-1iniGS1rE3KVLF9FBuYBCS6KSNq0Bqgj3VNnMzXsUepHMuXsZArLncI74sXoQlA8Q8i8BLfgtRjiZFIx6yqBA/s2952/20231224_152758.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2904" data-original-width="2952" height="630" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh74vYtJL8QBW623qDuAJ2SPdqA2QBvdeT1i7wXnehVCCQru4XPxf3zqByOe98e_DDPlYggOzhNQ5h9v_cHWpmxJpC8nWostNUxKfQzZ3-1iniGS1rE3KVLF9FBuYBCS6KSNq0Bqgj3VNnMzXsUepHMuXsZArLncI74sXoQlA8Q8i8BLfgtRjiZFIx6yqBA/w640-h630/20231224_152758.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The yarn is called Yarn Bee Eternal Bliss and is originally from Hobby Lobby for $7.99 per skein. This yarn is the Light Gray colorway, which is literally the perfect color for my parent's back room of their house, which is where they would watch tv with a blanket. This yarn is seriously 1 inch in diameter. So thick. I knew i couldn't do anything with needles for this yarn, so I looked into finger knitting. I came across <a href="https://youtu.be/Gr-a15uJaoY?si=-EiUJYkcwMOlwKB4" target="_blank">this video on YouTube</a>, which laid out the whole process and made this project so easy.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPCG4rVENa-Kwt0NEUBHIIWVAA0AicegjwCgDHGzMN4dF_0QX91U70lbOgK0YvF0SK8Am91VuoDLKfQr89pXbMEqL0pP-7cnG_nDJ0qz__ieR2QyhAj4ZPNmV7iMCIVMtRMxSChuagkiSHrxUtSmQg1-7sQO7UORyFjuOsHXYGI-Ypq-vkV4IzNfgRZCEr/s2820/20231224_152600.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2532" data-original-width="2820" height="574" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPCG4rVENa-Kwt0NEUBHIIWVAA0AicegjwCgDHGzMN4dF_0QX91U70lbOgK0YvF0SK8Am91VuoDLKfQr89pXbMEqL0pP-7cnG_nDJ0qz__ieR2QyhAj4ZPNmV7iMCIVMtRMxSChuagkiSHrxUtSmQg1-7sQO7UORyFjuOsHXYGI-Ypq-vkV4IzNfgRZCEr/w640-h574/20231224_152600.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">According to the video, I had the perfect amount of yarn for a 3 x 4 foot blanket, so I followed her directions and chain stitched 28 stitches across (which was 3 feet). I knit up the whole blanket one night on a zoom call for about 2 hours and then excitedly went in my room to lay it out and see how it looked ... only to discover that I had dropped 3 stitches on the edge throughout the project, one of which was in the first quarter of the blanket. Ugh. I had to unwind all the way back and set it aside. This worked out for the best though because now I knew what I was doing and I could involve my kids in making it again. They sat on each side of me and would pull up the loops on their side of the blanket while I worked on the center as we went. Now they can say they made this blanket, which is always a big deal for a 5 year old at Christmas. Also because I had already knotted the yarn together when I made the blanket the first time, I had an absolutely gigantic ball of yarn I was working from - seriously it was bigger than a basket ball. The girls thought it was pretty awesome.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbAS_u45_xH1R-9i84GXrFXTlbIHjIWotKRXn11JNsUAEa3_IzfgZmVJkm1Vh5TsjNHRrK6J3mv79gmfjBdFhgH8ygltXeq5sGP0Hx3XnEihQe66PIZX90Wn7bPfMTSRPr6-zRDyRphA1qV6W9DPHyB9bKvjlGqy3dzyfJmOR4RRJ1lMhX2mah8VOV1X6R/s3216/20231224_152715.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3216" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbAS_u45_xH1R-9i84GXrFXTlbIHjIWotKRXn11JNsUAEa3_IzfgZmVJkm1Vh5TsjNHRrK6J3mv79gmfjBdFhgH8ygltXeq5sGP0Hx3XnEihQe66PIZX90Wn7bPfMTSRPr6-zRDyRphA1qV6W9DPHyB9bKvjlGqy3dzyfJmOR4RRJ1lMhX2mah8VOV1X6R/w602-h640/20231224_152715.jpg" width="602" /></a></div>Here is the purl side of the blanket. You can see me joins if you look close, but they really aren't that bad considering how big this yarn is. I secured each join with a needle and thread as well as the start and end knots just to make sure it holds up to washing. Our stitching could certainly be a bit tighter, which might have made it look a bit more even, but for never having done finger knitting before and also considering I was letting 5 year olds help me, I think it turned out pretty great.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzae80BhGVVSaRnB9yl5-EGWkU-tUlCRdOnxkCJLIF-aJxxQwE8oWbMfK7W1vXTiCwDp2_hguQc2qt6qgoEOW87WcNQY9hJjbyOGN5h03M0JqiXjW_rp8w-R3KknxkENt7Coc7R1tFOJXemB2gSlxt-jGow8juo5hO9i1o6n_Kuy2tPySNGn1zJw1OdCgn/s3024/20231224_152642.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2766" data-original-width="3024" height="586" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzae80BhGVVSaRnB9yl5-EGWkU-tUlCRdOnxkCJLIF-aJxxQwE8oWbMfK7W1vXTiCwDp2_hguQc2qt6qgoEOW87WcNQY9hJjbyOGN5h03M0JqiXjW_rp8w-R3KknxkENt7Coc7R1tFOJXemB2gSlxt-jGow8juo5hO9i1o6n_Kuy2tPySNGn1zJw1OdCgn/w640-h586/20231224_152642.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>So now my parents have their chunky knit blanket. It's so thick and cushy that it works well as a mat for babies in case they plop their heads down too quickly, and the openness of the stitches makes this not a super heavy blanket. It's just enough to snuggle up in without making you too hot, so it should be great for this Florida family. My kids have been using it everytime they go over to my parents house, so I know I have their seal of approval. I'm happy with how this turned out and would definitely try out finger knitting again if I come across this kind of yarn again.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><p><b><u>Summary:</u></b></p><p><b>Yarn:</b> 5 skeins of Yarn Bee Eternal Bliss in Light Gray - <b>$5.35</b></p><p><b>Pattern: </b><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gr-a15uJaoY" target="_blank">How To Finger A Knit Blanket</a> by Play Hooky With Me - <b>Free</b></p><p><b>Time: 4 hours</b></p>Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13488541306043317638noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3949414890922711309.post-37325651811757260102024-01-19T09:00:00.001-05:002024-01-19T09:00:00.144-05:00FO: Pokemon Hat & Scarf Set<p style="text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs8MtsTNRrr9zOA5QcmLJwo1Zr1OENmONasTmOGfRLCtJQGtLYcy-yjbqNgK4eQVXRfOfmEC3qG6JL_JUPmtMf43ibi6iAuNraKulIGBDWHGCiF1piBo8anMGHeGNp3FjuqvjqNnxVbiR2Wl3cdNxEuCbEj4HB5I6NEl_vF_FYW8M_pPNEjnRkiX2xDUl3/s2160/20231217_125723.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2160" data-original-width="1964" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs8MtsTNRrr9zOA5QcmLJwo1Zr1OENmONasTmOGfRLCtJQGtLYcy-yjbqNgK4eQVXRfOfmEC3qG6JL_JUPmtMf43ibi6iAuNraKulIGBDWHGCiF1piBo8anMGHeGNp3FjuqvjqNnxVbiR2Wl3cdNxEuCbEj4HB5I6NEl_vF_FYW8M_pPNEjnRkiX2xDUl3/w582-h640/20231217_125723.jpg" width="582" /></a></p><p style="text-align: left;">The final hat and scarf set was for my 11 year old nephew and I decided to make it Pokemon themed. I found it amongst some skeins I had decided to donate years ago and then apparently never did. Good thing I didn't! I made this 50 stitches wide and just knit the yellow until it ran out, which didn't give me quite as long as I wanted it to be. Personally, I like my scarves to be long enough to easily double wrap around my neck and still show the end details, and my nephew is very big for his age, so I wanted this to be 72 inches. When the yellow ran out, I just color blocked in some black. This lead me down the very weird Mandela effect rabbit hole of whether Pikachu's tail has a zig zag of black at the end, which I always thought it did. Turns out that regardless of our personal thoughts on if it was changed at some point, the current games all have his tail as being all yellow and since that was what my nephew would know I just went with a straight transition to black instead of zig zagging it like I thought I would initially. he black is also Red Heart Super Saver, so the transition went well. I knitted about 15 inches more in black and then bound off.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTrwNSGHyHs3G4JYysN4IrhE_O5tjTLs2tIFuQH9OAGBRyQr0mVKvfsFgE7x4vQEh5Hp_vizLNf3pbJggxpDUTj5KHk1GKPo7LSGiWjZ97AStRMNnkU10tW0K-hwQL-ZY5-fAvuZGOvV8H5Han3nvTdptH-HNNVofOsotlSdtAabk5btlnCbzldPU546Io/s1728/20231217_125822%20copy.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1124" data-original-width="1728" height="416" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTrwNSGHyHs3G4JYysN4IrhE_O5tjTLs2tIFuQH9OAGBRyQr0mVKvfsFgE7x4vQEh5Hp_vizLNf3pbJggxpDUTj5KHk1GKPo7LSGiWjZ97AStRMNnkU10tW0K-hwQL-ZY5-fAvuZGOvV8H5Han3nvTdptH-HNNVofOsotlSdtAabk5btlnCbzldPU546Io/w640-h416/20231217_125822%20copy.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I used kitchener stitch at the ends and mattress stitch along the sides - and man do these take a long time to seam together when they are so long. I had seen a hat online that looked like a Pokeball and decided that would be my nephew's favorite. The inspiration hat has the button done with intarsia, which I could technically do on my machine, but I didn't know how yet and it would have taken me too long to learn and plot out and probably make this hat a few times to get right, so I decided to just knit the base colors into the hat and then figure out a way to add the circles after. Doesn't this beanie look so late 90s without the circles? How trendy am I? lol This is a picture of the mattress stitched back, which turned out great.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrgMI9NIc1ex30hU3V6X_9p82qwkhrXBLbMZv4h4xuxQvIikjSZoku0FAL0fgIb1ZZT1ItpfzxgggVfT_uIAUSOMT7nvYQT6-LwEjuOS-0uzxax-IWQYeyIfswI5SsE8QcNHvZuIkzNH_LJaca3aIgu8vrXOXMfBOg_20aMzzd5BXkHXeMN4Rcr43VwbQn/s1980/20231217_125912.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1860" data-original-width="1980" height="602" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrgMI9NIc1ex30hU3V6X_9p82qwkhrXBLbMZv4h4xuxQvIikjSZoku0FAL0fgIb1ZZT1ItpfzxgggVfT_uIAUSOMT7nvYQT6-LwEjuOS-0uzxax-IWQYeyIfswI5SsE8QcNHvZuIkzNH_LJaca3aIgu8vrXOXMfBOg_20aMzzd5BXkHXeMN4Rcr43VwbQn/w640-h602/20231217_125912.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">And here is the inside because I think it just looks to cool, lol. I had thought of just crocheting one, but that would have been really bulky, as would knitting one. Then I thought about finding an embroidery file and making a patch of just the button, but that would have been hard in the size I needed it. Then it hit me that I could just use a white base fabric and embroider circles of different thicknesses in black. This didn't require any files to do - I just used circles on the machine - and I think it turned out fantastic. The base fabric is a white denim my mom had on hand. Because this was just fabric, it was much easier to sew on than the thicker patches. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhu6nbVqkVkCF0FZrKHXsHGiGU6JL_9Pl8moBbk7RXik11hCloV6tEiO72g0bIa42uUElvWLx2LbBG5uTr1dIPzBZbhyQurC5AKDnOLpHk6PxjOcjr9oxrrt7nOXA340DIkMIIvjHw_CPIbYdtGIb_jS7O_UkfWsQW3lvIMMsRM6GoPPa25e529Dr_gyHUU/s1772/20231217_220538.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1716" data-original-width="1772" height="620" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhu6nbVqkVkCF0FZrKHXsHGiGU6JL_9Pl8moBbk7RXik11hCloV6tEiO72g0bIa42uUElvWLx2LbBG5uTr1dIPzBZbhyQurC5AKDnOLpHk6PxjOcjr9oxrrt7nOXA340DIkMIIvjHw_CPIbYdtGIb_jS7O_UkfWsQW3lvIMMsRM6GoPPa25e529Dr_gyHUU/w640-h620/20231217_220538.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This was the final item I was hurrying to finish so I could pop it in the mail, so my finished hat photos were all taken late at night, thus the lighting in the photos. It feels a bit like a miracle. This is my Decades of Style New England dress that I cut out back in November. I have worked on it here and there, but not very much in all honesty. To be real with you - my sewing room is an absolute disaster. Normally I can just push things around or move them to a corner pile, etc, but I have so much new stuff from Christmas and whatnot that there is no moving this mess around. I really need to have a drag it all out, get rid of, organize, and put it back session in a big big way, but I just haven't had the time or space elsewhere in my house to do that. So I kind of have to force myself to sew. I always enjoy it once I get going, but the mess is a big imposition. I'm hoping to finish this sometime later this week because I am doing long sleeves and I want to get to wear it while it's still cool outside as much as possible. I realize you can't see much because it's all black, but trust me - it's cute.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKC4q9p3BsSvuGmfKlMh5Vo4nM11PXCGCBlwgpQLZnKL3PVxVBtmK3lwNesSn1dWajbqc_00S9uBx_S_bsPrsT11FWdUKSNdtkDJTHc_Hjj4gQ8uMMMT58ziHptW4Y2yJiy2yJO-J__ck5isa9e-IPZvbNrjV87HYnvXhKUcif9F4YOAV_y729RYekdaTM/s3510/20240113_192629%20copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3156" data-original-width="3510" height="576" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKC4q9p3BsSvuGmfKlMh5Vo4nM11PXCGCBlwgpQLZnKL3PVxVBtmK3lwNesSn1dWajbqc_00S9uBx_S_bsPrsT11FWdUKSNdtkDJTHc_Hjj4gQ8uMMMT58ziHptW4Y2yJiy2yJO-J__ck5isa9e-IPZvbNrjV87HYnvXhKUcif9F4YOAV_y729RYekdaTM/w640-h576/20240113_192629%20copy.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>And in other news, we have a swallowtail caterpillar! I bought some herbs at a garden center and I always look for caterpillars on the dill plants. We found one and he is growing nicely. I just love watching him crawl around and contort to eat, lol. He is now big enough that I had to put him in a netting enclosure so he doesn't fall on the floor or something. This is not our first experience with hatching butterflies this way, and I am easily just as excited to watch him as my kids, lol. <p></p>Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13488541306043317638noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3949414890922711309.post-44500256013258295672024-01-14T09:00:00.001-05:002024-01-14T09:00:00.157-05:00FO: Spiderman Hat & Scarf Set<p> Are you noticing the trend yet?</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhl4BYwkv6WRyhE1iJ8smZJ4ND4Y6d_jQ75xuLr4C0il6dGMwGvrqYqvtVH2BK7PoD8hyCJMvAM8NqS0rNmIBX-w2Z6rpum0K1iU8i5OcAOM51L2LpB5jhvsY7Y8bWYtDuNVLP4IxwQwBiDAWkJzfe2kpT-8EhEy9rC2DJNYKsiswQWarwX9Ykyb9fhMg3Z/s1688/20231217_125325.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1688" data-original-width="1688" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhl4BYwkv6WRyhE1iJ8smZJ4ND4Y6d_jQ75xuLr4C0il6dGMwGvrqYqvtVH2BK7PoD8hyCJMvAM8NqS0rNmIBX-w2Z6rpum0K1iU8i5OcAOM51L2LpB5jhvsY7Y8bWYtDuNVLP4IxwQwBiDAWkJzfe2kpT-8EhEy9rC2DJNYKsiswQWarwX9Ykyb9fhMg3Z/w640-h640/20231217_125325.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>Once I worked out the sizing and kinks of making the Ravenclaw hat and scarf set, it was time to churn out a few other variations. My 5 year old nephew is very into Spiderman lately, so I decided to make him a set to feel super cool. I was inspired by a red and blue striped hat and scarf I saw online that I knew I could recreate and I dove in.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjGh3YVvH7ToGxlv4jXg7VmnuTzRqO1Yt_i4KSJfHGjwGSKwThlsRf4dFe3O9fL88JIu6pQgCAdlDsP5BLhPtNCrn7YYMx9eXI5EQW15vSXW6ZVQBJgCPnAhyphenhyphenmGtnznL_n4KJoqInK5xHosCtOaAfHEiU4vDVQs9ph7mzVxgOSPJUdlR6zpZZhk2fhsW_a/s1788/20231217_125601.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1708" data-original-width="1788" height="612" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjGh3YVvH7ToGxlv4jXg7VmnuTzRqO1Yt_i4KSJfHGjwGSKwThlsRf4dFe3O9fL88JIu6pQgCAdlDsP5BLhPtNCrn7YYMx9eXI5EQW15vSXW6ZVQBJgCPnAhyphenhyphenmGtnznL_n4KJoqInK5xHosCtOaAfHEiU4vDVQs9ph7mzVxgOSPJUdlR6zpZZhk2fhsW_a/w640-h612/20231217_125601.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The hat came first on this one because I was making all the hats back to back. This set worked out to be a bit of a stash bust. I had various partial skeins of red and blue acrylic yarn that was given to me or leftover from other projects, so this was the perfect opportunity to use those up. The blue yarn is Red Heart Super Saver in the Delft Blue colorway, which I used up entirely, and the red in an unknown acrylic from a friend (I suspect it's I Love This Yarn) and I only have a small ball of that leftover. The hat was made with the same <a href="https://www.blogger.com/u/4/blog/post/edit/3949414890922711309/7655256774670173925#" target="_blank">YouTube Video</a> as the first hat and it worked great for this one too. The only difference is that I had to change the yarns myself since this wasn't self striping. I did 6 rows of each color for the striping and I think that was the perfect amount. The back is mattress stitched together and it's <i>almost</i> seamless, which I'm happy with.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgWh0Ut959JFjtBAMNfQUUaw7iOK6Kf7JFsiNIMnAMdgDqXXBhcIjuR1b-MXJk37O5wk0zPB_ooO-tMHeMi__t8wdkaVugefngr45gQrHPsWC6DtBT8CUCKQKlUMSp3mR4eLPxYHb4fuFxA5nJX6c3qdXR4TNFkDY3cbt5_uPAkc3FMljH3Q96hVpi4FhH/s2304/20231217_125541.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2304" data-original-width="1980" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgWh0Ut959JFjtBAMNfQUUaw7iOK6Kf7JFsiNIMnAMdgDqXXBhcIjuR1b-MXJk37O5wk0zPB_ooO-tMHeMi__t8wdkaVugefngr45gQrHPsWC6DtBT8CUCKQKlUMSp3mR4eLPxYHb4fuFxA5nJX6c3qdXR4TNFkDY3cbt5_uPAkc3FMljH3Q96hVpi4FhH/w550-h640/20231217_125541.jpg" width="550" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The spiderman emblem was also made by me! Well, by a machine that I directed, which counts, right? I swear as more machinery is involved, I don't really know how to refer to things anymore, you know? Anyway, I searched online for Spiderman files for my mom's embroidery machine (I have an older machine that does embroidery, but my mom's is fancier and she has all the threads on hand to make whatever AND I was too lazy to set mine up, lol). The file only took about 15 minutes to stitch out, which wasn't bad. I used some black linen scraps as the base fabric and then we used several stabilizers to get this crisp look. I think the patches turned out really great. Once the file was stitched out, I just cut very close around it like a patch and hand stitched it to the center front.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj04jyj97fDwJuGKnxwQaOPbHsenz1HbQRPkyj9Q9dCiqfDMgfx_0MdymHp9tTE3rUFmj1kv_i6TPVRgTLguWXfHmh3HXe0UdYsKrjrHX72e95FwVrJ1YV0W-zGYODpMFarTlaH9_UaEPVZ6oPQ3jgR8-a59VgcRgoGZLXwK54jrClDsvs0cc6hPunP86V5/s2116/20231217_125423.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2116" data-original-width="1980" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj04jyj97fDwJuGKnxwQaOPbHsenz1HbQRPkyj9Q9dCiqfDMgfx_0MdymHp9tTE3rUFmj1kv_i6TPVRgTLguWXfHmh3HXe0UdYsKrjrHX72e95FwVrJ1YV0W-zGYODpMFarTlaH9_UaEPVZ6oPQ3jgR8-a59VgcRgoGZLXwK54jrClDsvs0cc6hPunP86V5/w598-h640/20231217_125423.jpg" width="598" /></a></div>Next came the scarf. I made this 50 stitches wide (same as the Ravenclaw one) and I just kept knitting until I ran out of yarn. Since my nephew is 5, he didn't need an adult sized scarf. The red yarn in this scarf is Premier Yarns Everyday Soft Worsted in the Really Red colorway, which I only have a small ball of left now. The blue is the same Red Heart and I ran out mid stripe, which was a bit of a bummer. I wanted the stripes to at least be the same width throughout, so I added a bit of black just to finish out that 6 row stripe. I think it still goes fine and no one has asked why it has a stripe of black. I used the Sentro 48 pin machine and cranked out a yellow and black version, which was mostly fine except the machine had tucked stitches no matter what I tried to avoid it. I had a heavily tucked section in the most visible area when worn and I really wasn't thrilled with it. I decided to try the second scarf on my flat bed knitting machine to compare the two - if I couldn't get the flat bed machine to do better then I would just use the pokemon one as it was. Anyway, this was what started my adventures in finally making things on my flat bed machine, lol. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTFR-NLS7ClBNZBUM4zfssApep9-d7qEbt-vMHygnmvUuOXeoi6Sgam9nSuN3Kh8DXloiAPm1fLe24Z1PZJPHv973ajVYWIYhyI_Qnvmuk88vp7gLr-5IUG5nUU322NN7K8p0Epa-uMSa28Osg8ey53LQa1RvC6bVvur3GQJtw909BkZ_8XrMFFKYGvFa_/s2324/20231217_125021.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2324" data-original-width="1980" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTFR-NLS7ClBNZBUM4zfssApep9-d7qEbt-vMHygnmvUuOXeoi6Sgam9nSuN3Kh8DXloiAPm1fLe24Z1PZJPHv973ajVYWIYhyI_Qnvmuk88vp7gLr-5IUG5nUU322NN7K8p0Epa-uMSa28Osg8ey53LQa1RvC6bVvur3GQJtw909BkZ_8XrMFFKYGvFa_/w546-h640/20231217_125021.jpg" width="546" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The scarf was my first project even though I finished it last. Since I was trying to make the same size as the Sentro machine, I made this 50 stitches wide - 48 stitches and then 2 stitches as seam allowance for sewing it into a tube. I like a scarf that is long enough to really wrap you up, so I made this 72 inches long. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQhpZ9GJDmevtHCcAclFb9fBPR5gXxEW3fu2N9NWcPxCQhvR0gPLuo24K5h4qL_2TgogIfcIZR9IJpKs77CdtSmBs3gDU-Wp_m9QKohz0yNlHjEb8lN6N3bgalj0T1na4oi-qhNeKg9QfZKeUt0PiVPYzF0Hkyf3Bh66K8bwvkCQmYFxMUDbvvH7TKuwjb/s1980/20231217_124937.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1980" data-original-width="1980" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQhpZ9GJDmevtHCcAclFb9fBPR5gXxEW3fu2N9NWcPxCQhvR0gPLuo24K5h4qL_2TgogIfcIZR9IJpKs77CdtSmBs3gDU-Wp_m9QKohz0yNlHjEb8lN6N3bgalj0T1na4oi-qhNeKg9QfZKeUt0PiVPYzF0Hkyf3Bh66K8bwvkCQmYFxMUDbvvH7TKuwjb/w640-h640/20231217_124937.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The yarn was a very fortuitous situation. I was planning on buying some navy blue yarn and striping this scarf myself with some gray I already had, but one day on a visit to the local library one of the lovely ladies asked me if I would like some yarn. She knows I'm an avid knitter and brought me into their classroom where they stored yarn for knitting classes and pulled out 5 trash bags and a few tubs filled with yarn and told me to take whatever I wanted. They had too much on hand and people tend to bring their own to the classes, so this was all going to go. It was mostly all acrylic, but I found 3 skeins of Red Heart Team Spirit yarn in Navy and Gray stripe. This is a self striping acrylic yarn and I immediately knew it would be perfect for my Ravenclaw project. My boyfriend's son discovered Harry Potter this past year and he saw he is a Ravenclaw, so I knew I had to facilitate this. Sometimes the universe just makes certain projects a possibility, you know?</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhG4FiaCmGzf_6xu3FL3n4bDbsq3k5mo9ggSR5YIjmeYvgi1yEW2ASXfAtPrXFHYQDPTVxhklIDw_lPg0Ck_S20bkLscVKE8CfZZOTBxkgMQ6ymzwhXqbXzkUIT1tC6yc3O81GE3iwSZIE9ea72Xie6XEyxnq_PIO_F5gDM_EEb-BeLivV5umkHSwjrE6WN/s2500/20231217_125047.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2500" data-original-width="1980" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhG4FiaCmGzf_6xu3FL3n4bDbsq3k5mo9ggSR5YIjmeYvgi1yEW2ASXfAtPrXFHYQDPTVxhklIDw_lPg0Ck_S20bkLscVKE8CfZZOTBxkgMQ6ymzwhXqbXzkUIT1tC6yc3O81GE3iwSZIE9ea72Xie6XEyxnq_PIO_F5gDM_EEb-BeLivV5umkHSwjrE6WN/w506-h640/20231217_125047.jpg" width="506" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">So I made this using my 1988 Babylock knitting machine. I watched the series called Know Your Bond by Cheryl Brunette on YouTube and just knitted until it was 72 inches long. Since I didn't have to change colors, it went extremely smoothly. I think I made this in about an hour on the knitting machine. I'll admit it probably took me another 30 - 45 minutes to seam it up and then another 30 minutes to sew the patch on, but still for a plain stockinette scarf that's 72" long, I'm fine with that time frame, lol. I originally wanted to add tassels, but in the end I didn't think they were needed. I ordered 2 of these patches from Joann because they were on sale for $3.25 each and that's cheaper than I would have been able to buy the embroidery file let alone spend the hour to stitch them out myself. Work smarter, not harder, right? For the scarf, I just used a mattress stitch along the sides to sew it into a tube and I used a kitchener stitch to close up the end, then I steamed it heavily on the seams to get them to sit flatter.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEOIVncLfDiIkBYHiFfFstJq0I04BvuCeYQ-bQpPRuXtPp9djhzMCd5m0mS1SqAygVZ_q0cLf7ZDxY8-F3I1LJ69VHxm73vCGhReN7UulZk589Z4VRGhmF3BBXqNWISqRM7uPeidoQFt9hZh01Fn90wPQGpFC40BgRKFR1542UuZhyphenhyphen5BMtYS8joNdsnm6E/s1716/20231217_125157.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1716" data-original-width="1716" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEOIVncLfDiIkBYHiFfFstJq0I04BvuCeYQ-bQpPRuXtPp9djhzMCd5m0mS1SqAygVZ_q0cLf7ZDxY8-F3I1LJ69VHxm73vCGhReN7UulZk589Z4VRGhmF3BBXqNWISqRM7uPeidoQFt9hZh01Fn90wPQGpFC40BgRKFR1542UuZhyphenhyphen5BMtYS8joNdsnm6E/w640-h640/20231217_125157.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Next up - the hat! I actually made this hat twice. At first, I used my own numbers for how many stitches it should be and it turned out way too big even for my head. It was good practice though and I was able to make the next one according to the numbers I got from <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOBN1Ezl8P4" target="_blank">this YouTube video</a>. I was grateful to find this video made on the machine I was using. It was a nice walk through. When making this hat on the flat bed machine, at least 75% of the time is making the brim. You cast on every other stitch, knit a few rows, then add in all the rows and knit some more, then you go in with a latch hook tool and drop down every other row and re-knit them by hand to be knit stitches on the wrong side, giving you a ribbed brim that is already cast off when you're done. It's very much worth the time and effort, but it just feels like it takes forever in comparison to the time of the entire hat.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtpxG0uD25WRmV5mHsuOc68REob_Aabi4_OQhKpwraC7sXYx9FNHvKgSxi6kuV6GstLZE46_NVHycjMbmLy15S7cGmB_TrqCHIwvUCwXrGpL2pAL4mP6iRx0VKzDf0g9cf7h2iGodoqS32AUL9butc9emZ8sMIN81bKptkdZ2lrFRgR1eqR9I6FeZt3JsR/s1820/20231217_125613.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1760" data-original-width="1820" height="618" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtpxG0uD25WRmV5mHsuOc68REob_Aabi4_OQhKpwraC7sXYx9FNHvKgSxi6kuV6GstLZE46_NVHycjMbmLy15S7cGmB_TrqCHIwvUCwXrGpL2pAL4mP6iRx0VKzDf0g9cf7h2iGodoqS32AUL9butc9emZ8sMIN81bKptkdZ2lrFRgR1eqR9I6FeZt3JsR/w640-h618/20231217_125613.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>Once the knitting is done, you draw up the crown to cinch in and seam the back.
