Things of Interest: January

I'm always reading lots of articles and blog posts online about all kinds of various topics. I always want to share them in case others will find them interesting as well, but I just never could figure out when and where it would be alright to do so. I've decided that this year, I will start collecting links to all the interesting articles I come across and post them here so that you can benefit from them too if you want. So, here is the past month's things that I found interesting:
  • Smithsonian Magazine put up a very interesting article called 5 Reasons Why You Should Probably Stop Using Antibacterial Soap. Apparently the FDA have finally put their foot down and told antibacterial soap manufacturers to prove that antibacterial soap is more effective against actual illness than just regular soap and water.
  • How To Name A Baby
  • Did you know that knitted fences are a thing? Man, how cool are some of these?!
  • A Sheep No More posted a really cool collection of 40 Maps That Will Help You Make Sense Of The World showing all kinds of neat visuals like the if the world's entire population lived in 1 city, how much land area of the US would it cover and the shift in world economic center over time. PRetty cool stuff.
  • 24 Invaluable Skills To Learn For Free Online This Year
  • At this year's Craft and Hobby Association winter trade show, Lion Brand unveiled their 7 Wonders of the World (in Yarn). This is so cool and must have taken loads of time. I highly recommend giving it a look :)
  • This Article talks about the issues of minimalism and getting rid of your books. Though a Kindle can replace them (if you can afford to buy them again), should it? I really love this quote from the article, "Unread books force us to ask how we are spending our time and whether we are becoming the people we want to become."
  • A very kinds knitter in Ontario Canada has been leaving gifts to help with the cold all around the city. How cool is that?
  • These photos are all of absolutely beautiful places. Doesn't it just make you wish you could visit everywhere?!
  • Ever thought of knitting with your own hair? No? Well, this woman did! Check out her project of 11 years - not my thing, but I've got to appreciate her dedication, lol.
