New Year's Sale at The Sewing Studio

Yesterday marked not only a new year, but also my tradition of going to the 40% off store wide sale at The Sewing Studio in Maitland, FL. This time, my mom and sister came with me and we were there for a little over 3 hours, lol. We came away with some awesome things though.

These two groups are destined to become skirts. The crazy green/orange print is a really nice cotton sateen. It's a bit much, but I have been known to wear wild prints on occasion and this one was a steal of a deal at $3.60 a yard, so I went for it and bought all 1.75 yards that were left of it. I also snagged the purple polyester lining to go with it for $1 a yard. The gray is actually 100% cotton that has a texture like linen AND it was in the sale bin, so it was already 50% off with another 40% off that, putting it to only $2.70 per yard. I got 3 yards so I can really play around with it :) The blue poly lining was also in the sale and it was only $1.65 per yard. 

The set of 3 fabrics to the left is destined to be another knitting needle case :) Isn't that floral stuff awesome?! It's an Alexander Henry print called Sloane. I wanted that for the outside of the case, then I grabbed the gray quatrefoil for the lining and the teal broadcloth for the pockets and strap. I'm very exciting about this one :) The other 3 pieces there are all stretch lace. The royal blue and the larger piece of white are garment factory remnants from a designer factory down in Miami, so these could be technically Calvin Klein, Evan Picone, Anne Klein, or some other big name like that. I want to play around with the blue as maybe a front panel on a t-shirt. The larger white along with that smaller boarder stretch lace will become "privacy panels" on some of my deep v-neck shirts that I haven't been able to wear in years. I've tried all kinds of store bought "dickeys", but I seriously hate them all. They are always uncomfortable or finicky and like to pop out on you - not fun. I'd much rather just sew in a permanent one, and this lace will be the trim :) I've wanted to do this for years, but never remembered to buy the lace.

These were all fat quarters of really high quality quilting cottons or nice remnant pieces. The fat quarters are all Amy Butler, Cynthia Rowley, Moda, etc. The pink floral remnant is 7/8ths of a yard of The Ladies Stitching Club by Liesl Gibson for Oliver + S for Moda :) It was $3 and I want to make it into a knitting project bag. And the true steal of the day is that larger green floral print. This is a 1 5/8ths yard remnant piece of Amy Butler Cotton Voile! They still had bolts of this print for $21 per yard! Yowza! lol I've always heard about how amazing voiles and lawns are, but I've never been confident enough in my abilities to actually spend that much on fabric. This whole piece was $8.40, that's only $5.17 per yard - how could I pass that up?! Since it's not a very big cut, I'm hoping I can get a nice top out of it.

And finally, the notions of the day :) I grabbed 2 zippers (for the skirts I mentioned above), 4 magnetic snap closures (for knitting needle cases), a set of pearl snaps, a grommet kit (for the project bag), a new seam gauge, thread, 4 packs of needles, Vogue 8851 (they were only $2.99) and the Fasturn Tube Turner! This is the same fantastic tool that Christine Haynes recommends in The Sassy Librarian Blouse Craftsy class and I have wanted one ever since I watched that lesson. All of these items were 40% off too :)

So I've added more plans into my crazy fabric stash, lol, but I also have most all of the implements that I need to make those plans a reality. One of my personal goals this year is to sew more - I have the stuff, I have the ability, I just need to buckle down and devote the time to do it.

If you live in the Central Florida area, I highly recommend making this sale part of your bi-annual tradition as well. You can sign up for their reminder emails on their website, but they have this 40% off sale on New Year's Day and the 4th of July every year. It's well worth making the trip over :)
