Fabric Destash Sale on Instagram!

You guys - I did it! I actually went through my fabric stash and I managed to pull out 3 large boxes full of fabric that I am ready to let go of :) I figured that before I send it to the thrift store, I should offer it up to other sewists who would truly appreciate it. Some of this is really neat stuff - I just have no idea what to do with it or it is not my style.

This pile of boxes is 4 feet high and they are full of fabric. Some of this is vintage, some is new and not my style anymore, and some have been inherited so I don't know where they originally came from. There will be everything from apparel fabrics to knits to home decor to quilting cotton, so really something for everyone. Cool as it all is, I cannot take it with me when I move in a few weeks.

Awesome Fabric Sales (Online AND Local)

Consider this a public service announcement :) I couldn't let these sales go by without let anyone know who would want to. Craftsy has lots of their kits and supplies up to 70% off. I saw some great deals on lovely yarns and fabrics, so definitely head over there should you get the chance.

Craftsy Winter Clearance Sale Alert

So it's one of those awesome times of year when Craftsy runs an amazing sale on supplies and kits. I've sung their praises before with these seasonal sales, but I just had to share again because this time it's filled with fantastic things to grab on the cheap (and if you know anything about me by now, it's that I'm cheap, lol).

Case and point: This dress pictured above is the Essential Linen Shirt Dress Kit. The kit includes the pattern (McCall's 1870) as well as enough Robert Kaufman Brussels Washer Linen to make it in your size (4 yards of 4.75 yards).At the moment they only have this kit in black, but how can you go wrong with a black linen? The kit is on sale for $20.97. Now, if you were to go to their fabric by the yard section, you can buy the same linen and pay $24.97 for just the 4 yards. So not only is this pattern cheaper per yard on a great linen fabric, you also get the pattern thrown in. How great is that?!

Another great example is the Sewaholic Yaletown Dress Kit. This kit includes a paper copy of the Yaletown pattern ($14.78 plus shipping from Sewaholic) as well as 4 yards of a drapey polyster print fabric to make it with - all for $28.78. If you factor the price of the pattern, it's like paying $15 for that fabric. I personally think this is really cute, but even if you didn't want to pair this fabric with this pattern it's a great price for it all.

If yarn is more your thing, you should take a look at their sale on Lion Brand Cotton-Ease. Normally the cheapest I can get this yarn at Joann's or big box stores is about $5.50 per skein (unless I only want 1 skein and I can use the 40% off coupon, but I never just need one skein and I want my dye lots to match). Craftsy has this yarn marked down to just $2.46 per skein! That is a crazy price. I purchased this yarn from Craftsy back in December of 2014 because I thought it was a great deal at just over $3 a skein - now they've even beat that. I used this yarn on my Sunshower Cardigan this year and I really like it, so I will be grabbing a sweater's worth of this yarn for sure this weekend.

Craftsy Supplies Sale (Great Deals on Cotton + Steel and More!)

I just wanted to quickly let everyone know about the awesome sale this weekend on Craftsy. I like to periodically check their supplies when they announce a big sale, and this weekend did not disappoint. Ironically I was just lamenting last week on Curvy Sewing Collective about how I can never afford Cotton + Steel fabric since I would need more yardage than many other bloggers I follow, and wouldn't you know that Cotton + Steel is one of the brands of fabric that is 40 - 60% off in this sale! I snatched a few 4 yard cuts for myself, and I seriously can't wait!

Big Craftsy Memorial Day Sale (Just In Time For the Outfit Along!)

So, my favorite yarn supply store is having a sweet sale, and I just had to post about it.

Craftsy is not only a great place for online classes on different crafts - it's also a fantastic place to get good deals on yarn, fabric, and art supplies. They get new items all the time, and always put them up at much less than their retail elsewhere - going even lower during special holiday sales like this weekend. I had to take a look around, and I got a sweet deal on the perfect yarn for an upcoming project:

I will be participating in the Outfit Along 2015 hosted by Andi of Untangling Knots and Lauren of Lladybird. I tried to participate last year, and I halfway did, life and gauge problems just got in the way and I did not finish in time. This year, I feel much more able to actually meet the deadline since I have a few dress patterns already fitted to me and ready to go. The OAL does have some "official" patterns (McCall's 6887 and Vianne), but those are just the ones that will be shown on either of their blogs and you are welcome to use other patterns - the only requirement is that you finish a dress and a cardigan from June 1st to July 31st. This option of choosing something else works great for me since I have such a crazy time making multiple muslins to get things to fit me. 

So, I will be knitting a Briar Cardigan (shown above) in white and sewing a novelty print Simplicity 1419 with an altered neckline. The 1419 pattern is my go-to at the moment since I've already fitted the daylights out of it, and the Briar may seem really boring but I am SO in need of a plain short sleeve white cardigan in my wardrobe. I have literally dozens of things to wear such a simple sweater with and I am constantly wishing I had one, so now I will :)

This weekend's Craftsy sale is really what made this sweater a possibility because I was able to grab the perfect yarn - FibraNatura Cotton True Sport in Marshmallow - for only $2.75 per skein! I was able to get all the yarn I needed for less than $18 including the shipping. Awesome! I love a good deal. I've read really good things about this yarn, and since it is Pima Cotton I know it will be nice and soft - also the sport weight will be a nice thickness for Florida weather. I'm really excited to get this in my hands :)

Craftsy Best Sellers Sale (and My Latest Stash Additions)

It's been a while since I posted anything about my sponsors to the right of my blog (especially given the overall feel for sponsored posts in the blogging community lately), but I really wanted to share what I know is a great deal to be had on Craftsy. Before I launch into the actual sale info, I wanted to prove how much I feel it's a good deal by showing you what I recently bought, lol. This is Show and Tell Meg, after all :)

Craftsy can be a fantastic source for great prices on really nice quality crafting supplies. I have made many purchases from their supplies section over the years. About a week ago they had a sale that I just couldn't say no to and I came away with these:

They had this Cascade 220 Superwash Quatro on sale for $3.85 per skein - yes, you read that right! This yarn is up on yarn.com right now for $6.79 per skein. The yarn has been discontinued by Cascade, so lots of places are running sales on it, but seriously $3.85 each for superwash 100% wool? That's just crazy. I grabbed 6 skeins of the Lupin colorway which has a great purple/fuchsia twist to it.

See? It's about like this photo in real life - a nice bright magenta/purple. I grabbed enough to make the Agatha cardigan with it, plus one extra for good measure. It's so pretty and squishy and soft. I just love it!

I also couldn't resist this fantastic deal - Lion Brand Cotton-Ease for 3.08 per skein! I've always wanted to use this yarn for a white sweater, but I've never felt like paying $6.50 per skein for it from Joann's. Even on sale at Joann's I never see it cheaper than $5.24 each, so $3.08 was an absolute no brainer. I'm not entirely sure what sweater I will make with this, but I grabbed 5 skeins so I should be good for most of the designs I had my eye on.

Just to dispel any thoughts of me telling you all this for my own gain, I paid for all of this out of my own pocket. I'm not being compensated by Craftsy at all for posting it here. It was just such a great deal I wanted to share.

All that being said, I wanted to also let you know about their Best of 2014 Sale. This sale is the "get what you really want for Christmas" sale, lol. All of their classes will be $19.99 or less, as well as some great deals on their supplies (this includes yarn, fabric, kits and more). The sale starts today (12/20/14) and runs until Midnight of Christmas Day (12/25/14). I haven't even seen what the prices are no the supplies, but if they are anything like what you saw I already got, I may need to snag a few deals myself :)

So, this past two weeks has seen a myriad of fantastic sales in the crafting world. I'm proud to say I was very well behaved, but there was one sale that was just too good to pass up and I'm really glad I took advantage of - Knit Picks.

I've always been curious to try Knit Picks yarn, but having no local yarn store to feel around in, I always have to go by other peoples' experience when I buy a new yarn online. I have several patterns I want to make up that suggest Knit Picks yarn, but what if it's not as soft as I would like? This is a constant concern for me, and while their yarns aren't ridiculously expensive, I just never took the plunge for fear of wasting money on something I wouldn't 100% love (which has certainly happened to me before with online yarn purchases). Enter the fantastic Knit Picks sale and I finally felt it was worth the minimal investment to try them out - man, am I glad I did :) Not only was the yarn a great price, but I am pleasantly surprised by the colors and feel of what I chose. So, here is what I picked up:

First on the list was Wool of the Andes Sport in the Mai Tai Heather color way. I almost bought this back in May, but restrained myself. I had plans to make up an Audrey In Unst cardigan with it, which has been on my list forever. At only a little over $12 for all I needed 8 skeins), I was excited to hand over my money. The color is a bit less pink than it seemed online, but I still like it :) Believe it or not, I've never worked with sport weight yarn before, so it will be a learning experience all round. I'm really impressed with the feel of this wool - it's much softer than Cascade 220 (which seems to be it's online counterpart in the inexpensive 100% wool category). I'm excited to get working on this :)

While I was paying for the shipping, I figured I might as well grab a few skeins of other yarns I've been curious to try, right? I got 2 skeins of Stroll Sock yarn in Blue Topaz. I got this color because it was the only one left on sale, and I got 2 skeins because that's how much you need for a pair if socks. This yarn is Superwash Merino/Nylon and it feels amazing - so soft and smooth! I had this yarn in mind for a sweater, but I like that I can try it on some socks first. I'm pretty sure I'll live it though - plus these 2 skeins cost me $5.00 :)

I also have a zillion patterns that suggest Palette - it seems to be the go-to yarn for fingering weight color work. Since most colors were half their normal price, I grabbed a few skeins. There was no rhyme or reason to what colors I picked - I just chose some color ways I wanted to see in person to decide if I liked them for bigger projects, which I'm so glad I did! My favorites turned out to be much different than I thought when looking at them online. The best (in my opinion) is the almost black one in the front here - it's called Midnight Heather and it's the most amazing black with flecks of blue and green in it. I will absolutely be making a sweater in this color in the future (though I will wait for the next sale to grab more yarn, lol). The other favorites are Fairy Tale (kind of a deep fuchsia) and Macaw (my perfect bright green). I also grabbed a skein of Silver, Pistachio and Blue Note Heather - the last being the only one I'm sort of disappointed by. It looked so much more vibrant online than in person. I'm sure I will still use it though :)

So that was my little but of excitement in the mail this week, and the extent if my cyber sale week fun. I only spent $31.00 including shipping ... for 16 skeins of yarn! And they are all real wool! I know for a fact I've spent more than that on cheapy acrylics from Joann's before, so I am thrilled to get such a steal on this much nicer yarn. I can't wait for their next sale so I can buy more, and I would definitely say Knit Picks yarn is all it is reputed to be :)

Look At This Cute Bunny Puppet! Plus A Sale!

I just found this pattern designer today and her designs are so adorable, I just had to share them with you :) Barbara Prime runs Fuzzy Mitten where she makes amazingly cute knitting patterns for toys. I randomly found one of her animals someone else had made on Ravelry, which made me look at her others and fall in love. I mean, look at this cuteness!

This is her Bunny Puppet pattern. I just love that sweet little face. I loved the design straight off, bu then I decided to read her blog and discovered that this pattern is currently 50% off both through Ravelry or her Etsy shop. Apparently the design is close to Barbara's heart, but has never had the sales success that her other patterns have, so she is hoping the sale will give it some more love. I hope she's right! This pattern is only $1.50 for the whole month of March! The sale certainly made up my mind - I already bought the pattern :) 

I'm not getting anything for posting about this, I just really thought her designs were lovely and worth sharing :) Have a look at the rest of her animals here. I can't wait to make this sweet little bun up and I know it won't be my last pattern from Barbara. Hooray for cute animal designs!

Craftsy Black Friday Sale! All Classes $19.99 Or Less!

It's that time again! The annual Black Friday Craftsy Sale! This is always a fantastic opportunity to grab any classes you've had your eye on as they all are $19.99 or less :) This is ALL of their classes - even brand new ones that are regular price $50 or so. If you're a regular reader, I don't need to tell you how much I love Craftsy classes. They are so worth the price, especially since they are so marked down.

This sale also includes their yarn and fabric selections :) The yarn is up to 80% off and the fabric is up to 65% off - how great is that? You can grab a few of the deals I got a few weeks ago - the yarns are so lovely. I can't wait to use mine!

Craftsy Supplies Sale: Up To 85% Off (And My Own Deals)

This morning I woke up to find Craftsy is having a big sale on their supplies. They have their usual discounted prices even lower and some yarns are as low as 85% off! I took this great opportunity to grab a few new yarns for some projects I've planned and snagged a new project too :)

The first thing I grabbed was the Blue Angel Shawl Knit-Along :) This is a pretty shawl pattern that comes with the yarn to make it and it is marked down 75%. The yarn is Cascade Heritage in Como Blue and with the discount you get the pattern and the yarn for less than just a skein of the yarn would cost. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me :) 

I'm on a bit of a shawl kick now that I finished my Hope Shawlette. Shawls are pretty and add a nice touch of luxury to you day (at least I feel that way). I've been watching the Mastering Lace Shawls class on Craftsy lately and it has me very excited to knit the patterns that came with the class. I have quite a big yarn stash, but it doesn't include much lace or fingering weight yarn and the little it does is just cheapo stuff. Since shawls take a big chunk of time for me to make and they will touch my face and neck, I wanted to get some "fancy" yarn to make my class projects with. This sale was a great opportunity for that :) I grabbed 2 skeins of FIlatura di Crosa Nirvana yarn in the Cove Grey colorway for $5.36 each. This yarn is 100% merino wool that is mercerized, so not only is it soft like cashmere but it has a nice sheen too :) One skein wouldn't be quite enough for a shawl, so I got two just to be sure.

I also grabbed 2 skeins of Cascade Alpaca Lace for $4.68 each. This yarn is 100% baby alpaca - I've never worked with alpaca before, but this yarn is very highly rated by Ravelry users so I'm excited to give it a try. I got one skein in the Provence colorway (which is the burnt orange color) and one skein in Black.

ModCloth 24 Hour Gift Sale - Great for Christmas Gifts!

So, it's that time again - Christmas shopping time. I'm constantly stuck with what to buy for each person on my list that they will love but also won't break the bank. Lucky for folks like me, ModCloth is having a 24 hour sale today - save 20% off gifts! I'm never one to pass up a sale, especially one at a store I love, so I've compiled a list of a few of my favs here just to give you a taste.

Here's another one for the husband/me. We've been talking about starting back up with our film photography lately at least once a month. This is the Lomography Konstructor camera - you build it in a kit :) And then use it!

This one has my sister's name all over it - it's a moon ... lamp! I got her a constellation lamp a long time ago and she loved it. I think she would appreciate this and it would look cool in her son's Star Wars room :)

How cute are these? They are the Stroke of Genius flats and my sister in Japan would absolutely love them :)

Since Christmas is just a few days away, I'm sure if you are like me you have a few people that you just haven't found what to get them yet. Holy cow, guys! I was stoked when I read my email. As you know, I'm a huge Craftsy addict, and this weekend they are having their Endless Summer Sale where all of their classes are $19.99 or less! The sale starts today and runs until midnight on Monday, 9/17.

I know I've had a few on my list to grab and you really can't beat these prices so hurry to grab the ones you have your eye on :) Even classes like the Couture Dress is only $19.99 (normally $49.99). Orlando Area: The Sewing Studio 4th of July Sale

Anyone who is local to the Orlando FL area and is a crafter - you need to read this post! My favorite fabric store ever will be having their fantastic bi-yearly sale on July 4th, Wednesday. Every year on New Year's Day and July 4th, The Sewing Studio puts almost everything in their physical store on sale 40% Off! This store has a huge selection of quilting cottons but also has lots of fine apparel fabrics, drapery fabrics, swimsuit and athletic wear fabric as well as everything in between.
