So, I recently became involved in yet another great place to get cheap stuff and I had to share, lol.
For those who have not heard of Yerdle.com, it's an online "trading" site. You post pictures of things you are willing to give away, assign them a price in "yerdle dollars", and wait for someone to claim them. Conversely, you can shop using the Yerdle dollars you have, just paying a flat $5 shipping rate to get the items you want. I was intrigued by the idea long ago and joined the site, but never actually looked around until now. Now that I've started "sharing" though, I can't seem to stop, lol.
So what did I get with my first weekend of Yerdle-ing?
This all started with the search for a leather purse strap. I had purchased a second hand leather purse, but it came with no shoulder strap. I looked on ebay and other places on line, but for a real leather strap (a must for me because I annihilate them) they were bare minimum $25, which was more than I paid for the actual purse so that seemed silly. I decided to take a gander on Yerdle to see if anything could be found. And it was a success! What are the odds, right? A girl had sold a yellow coach purse, but couldn't find the strap at the time. When she found the strap, she no longer knew who bought the purse, so she just listed the brand new strap on Yerdle. Lucky me! Since I was definitely getting the strap, I looked through the other items this girl was "giving" on Yerdle, and I got this striped Old Navy top as well. I even had a free shipping credit, so I literally paid $2 for these items. How great is that?!
My second Yerdle purchase was a bit of a gamble, and sadly it didn't pan out. Someone listed this pair of size 39 Vivienne Westwood for Melissa shoes for just $25 Yerdle dollars. The picture was completely blurry, so you couldn't really see the details, but I had a free shipping credit and these are normally $100 or more shoes, so I figured it was worth the gamble. They aren't too bad until you look close...
I even looked up online how to clean Melissa jelly shoes, and used a magic eraser as recommended, but to no avail. I have no idea what would actually stain plastic shoes blue and red - maybe this person was a raver? lol. They are a little too tight on one of my feet anyway, so it's not really worth it to try harder to clean them. If anyone knows any tricks though, I'm all ears. I may re-Yerdle these or put them on ebay. We shall see.
My 3rd foray on Yerdle started when I saw these amazing Marie Antoinette postcards. These are from Versailles and show etchings of the queen in some of her crazy fashions with descriptions of them in French (and info about where you can get it for yourself from Rose Bertin, lol). I'm slightly obsessed with Marie Antoinette lately, plus the pink border and style will go fantastic in my sewing room, so I used my 3rd free shipping credit to get these. I can't wait to find a frame for them. Again, since I was definitely getting the postcards, I decided to look around at the other items the owner had up to give. I ended up with some needle nose pliers, 2 bottles of grout cleaner and sealer (more than half full each), and a Wade of England mini hedgehog figurine (my grandmother is all about mini animal figures right now so I just had to get it for her, lol). All of this cost me $4.
So, how did I get all the free shipping credits? By giving some of my own stuff :) You get a free shipping credit automatically once your first "give" goes through (meaning it's shipped out and on its way). Then you get more credits as you hit various giving milestones (I believe on the 3rd and 10th item you give). When I hit 10 items given (which happened in the same weekend I "bought" the items shown above), I became a "Star Yerdler" and received a fun surprise from Yerdle in the mail - some stickers and star confetti, lol. At the 10 gives point you can add a photo to your profile and you get access to exclusive promos too, so that will be nice. I'm now up to 13 processed gives, and when you hit 25 your get half off Yerdle's processing fees as well as more promos and exclusive stuff. It sounds pretty sweet, so I'm just hoping people want more of the stuff I put up to give, lol.
So yeah, I've had a lot of fun with Yerdle over the past few weeks, so I thought I'd share. If you'd like to give it a try yourself, you get a $35 Yerdle dollar credit if you sign up through my link (normally it's only $25, so please sign up through my link). Also you automatically get a free shipping credit when you give away your first item :) I'm all about those free shipping credit, folks. That is where it's at. Anyway, I highly recommend you have a look around Yerdle - maybe even grab some of the things I have up there if they strike your fancy. This type of shopping gives the same thrill as thrifting for me, so I hope you have fun with it too!

Come Get Craftsy's New Free eGuides!
I know I haven't posted much lately, but it's not because things haven't been happening with me :) I just don't have things ready to show yet, and they've been taking up most of my time. I wanted to share something with you that I really enjoy though in the meantime.
If you've read my blog for any amount of time, I'm sure you've heard of my absolute love of all things Craftsy. Well, on top of their amazing classes, both of the paid and free variety, they have focused quite a bit on some very useful eGuides over the past year for their members. I've blogged about a few before, but there are some really neat new ones now that are worth checking out. To download these guides for free (normally a $4.99 value), you just have to have a Craftsy account, which is also free :) You really can't lose! So, which ones are my favorites?
Clearly this one about homemade donuts is up there on my list, lol. I mean, really. I love cooking and I particularly love sweets of any kind, so this one is a no-brainer.
This next one is a guide to the basics of photography. Back when I had a photography business (we shot weddings and such), I was asked photography questions pretty frequently. Guides like this are a wonderful place to get your feet wet if you are interested in bettering your photos.
And my final fav of late, container gardening. It's coming up on the time of year that I start thinking about planting things, and I'm a big fan of containers - so little commitment to a place to keep them! lol It is definitely an art keeping the plants healthy in pots though, so I will be giving this one a thorough read through myself in the next few weeks :)
There are many more free eGuides on every subject that Craftsy offers classes in, from Knitting to Woodworking to Jewelry Making. If you haven't seen them yet, I suggest you go here and sign up for your free account now and download these great eGuides! P.S. What's even better is that some of the eGuides have special links for discounts on Craftsy classes that would further your knowledge. Just a head's up!
Enjoy :)

Fantastic New Free Class on Craftsy: Complete Knife Skills
This weekend marked two awesome accomplishments for me. I finished my sweater (photos to come in a few days - the weather is super rainy right now), and I also learned how to properly use knives in the kitchen! I actually accomplished these two things simultaneously - isn't technology great? :)
Craftsy just released a new free class called Complete Knife Skill. The class is taught by Chef Brendan McDermott and is seriously chock full of incredibly simple yet invaluable information. Within a few minutes of watching, I was really amazed by how much I had learned. Chef McDermott goes through the 3 main types of knives used most often in a professional kitchen, why they are used and how, how to hold them, and how to perform the standard cuts on different types of vegetables. I never realized that I should be using my big chef knife more often! The class teaches you what is taught to professional chefs to make their lives easier and their cutting more efficient. It's all about reducing the amount of work you have to do - the knife should be doing the work.
Thanks to our new smart tv that Justin and I bought ourselves for Christmas, I was even able to watch this class on the big screen! I just signed in on the tv and came into the future, lol. It was fantastic to watch it this way because I could see the details so much better. I highly recommend this if you have the means.
So while I finished up my button bands on Sunday afternoon, I also learned how to use a knife like a pro - talk about multi-tasking! I'm actually excited about the next time I need to cut an onion, which is a huge deal as I am super crazy sensitive to crying. This class actually teaches you how to avoid crying at all - I never knew that was even possible! It's all about the grain of the onion and not releasing much of the liquid (that's what makes you cry).
Anyway, I could gush all day about this - suffice it to say that even if you have had no interest in any of the Craftsy classes I have posted about, this one is THE CLASS you need to take. Everyone should take this class. It's not very long, but it packs a crazy amount of useful info that will benefit your cooking forever. Who wouldn't like their chopping to not take so long, amiright? So head over here to sign up for this class. It's free and you can watch it whenever you want, as many times as you want, forever!
Sign up for this class now! Don't wait! You won't regret it!

New Free Craftsy Classes - And Behind The Scenes Info
This past week, Craftsy released 2 more Free mini classes :)
A New Look at Longarm Quilting
and Machine Embroidered Classics.
Personally, I'm fascinated by watching longarm quilting - it's inexplicably mesmerizing. Like watching How It's Made. So even if you don't have a longarm quilting machine, it would be neat to see in action.
Behind The Scenes - Making A Craftsy Class
Before filming even begins, hours and hours are spent determining what content will be covered in each class. and how to best teach specific techniques to the camera. Instructors work with an instructional designer to create and in-depth outline of each lesson, and decide how to best prepare props or "step-outs" that show what your project should look like at different steps. Instead of a scripted class, instructors follow their outlines on camera to create an authentic and engaging teaching experience.
Most Craftsy classes are filmed in one of five Craftsy studios in Denver, CO, assuring that every part of the production goes off without a hitch. They fly in instructors from all over the world to spend several days filming, then spend several weeks turning hours of footage into a two to three hour class experience that has been watched, rewatched, and reviewed by industry experts. The final result is an HD-quality video that takes you in-depth into specific topics in any given craft category - from cooking and fine art to sewing and knitting.
What is the Craftsy Experience?
Craftsy classes are designed to have all the benefits of an in-person class, with none of the drawbacks. Available online and on-demand, you always have world-class instructors at the tip of your fingers. You can retake the class as many times as you want, and the 30-second repeat feature allows you to watch the same section over and over again until you get every technique just right.
Watching a Craftsy class is like having a first-row seat with some of the best instructors in the world. Even better, classes have a 100% money-back guarantee.
Try online learning today with a free mini-class from Craftsy! Choose from 23 Free classes ranging from drawing and painting to sewing and quilting, from knitting to cake decorating and more.
Sign up for Craftsy for free now and get ready for their big Black Friday weekend sale! I'll post more info when it gets closer, but all classes will be on sale so definitely check back :)

Craftsy: New Free Class - Sew Ready: Machine Basics
Seriously, was that not just meant to be? lol The timing for this class release is just perfect. Now I know that my sister will be able to have someone show her the basics of her machine while she is away from us. Amy Alan is the teacher of this class and I can affirm that she does a great job. She is also the teacher of Basic Serging, so I've had experience watching her. This class shows:
- how to clean and oil your machine
- explains the tools that come with most machines and how to use them
- fixing common beginner sewing problems
- how to thread your machine
- how to use specific feet and needles
- how to change feet and needles
This class is FREE! To get this class for yourself, just go here and sign up for Craftsy. It's free to join and they have a slough of great free mini classes including this one. You can watch your classes any time and as many times as you want - for life! Pretty awesome. So what are you waiting for?

The Amazings: New Online Craft Classes (+ Get A Free Class!)
I learned about a new craft class website a few months ago from one of the British sewing bloggers I follow. It sounded like a neat idea at the time, but I never looked into it much then. Now I am a full blown member with most of one class under my belt so I can form more of a real review for you.
The Amazings is a crafting website designed around learning from our generations past. Each class is a video of another person getting one on one instruction from an elderly professional in their trade. Too often the knowledge of how to do these amazing things dies off because children and grandchildren just aren't interested in learning it until its too late. This happened to me! A good friend of our family was an absolute wiz at crochet - that woman could make anything! When I was a teenager she offered repeatedly to teach me, but I just had no interest in it back then. Fast forward to now and I would have loved for Lu to teach me. I did find another friend to show me the ropes, but I still kick myself that I didn't give Lu that satisfaction at the time. This site makes it possible for everyone to kind of adopt a crafty granny to show you the ins and outs of their craft. I'm seriously loving this idea!
I signed up through a friend and received a free class of my choice :) I went with the Needle Felt A Furry Friend class which is taught by a lovely lady named Sue. I've been interested in needle felting for a while, so it was nice to find an actual video class to learn how to do it. Sue teaches a girl named Lorna how to felt animals that she designed herself - pretty cool. You're not stuck making just the animals they show you in the class - you can use the techniques you learn and apply them to your own design. The class shows you all the tools of the trade and a few tricks (like making the bodies out of fiber fill!) to really get you going. I don't have the tools on hand so I haven't made any animals yet, but with watching most of this class I definitely feel that I could when the time comes :)
Want to get a Free class? The coolest part of The Amazings is that if you sign up through a friend, you get a free class! So you can use this link to sign up and you will get to choose your class (any up to £20/$31). Maybe you want to learn Retro Hairstyles, hand sewn patchwork quilting, loom knitting, making altered books, machine embroidering a necklace, home dyed jewelry, working with silver clay and more. I've definitely got my eye on the retro hairstyles class among others. So head over here to try your first class for free and see for yourself what a great new concept this is :)

Knitting Update: Hot Pink Leaf Headband
This is a project I completed back in June and never blogged, lol, you can't rush these things, right? Plus a headband isn't nearly as exciting as a stuffed animal, imo. This is yet another Leaf Headband, and this pattern is turning into a tried and true.
This is the Blue Leaf Headband pattern which is Free on Ravelry. Since this is my 3rd time making it up, I think I have it all figured out. This one was actually made as a bargaining tool ... for my little sister, lol. My sister Marisa wanted some cute bows for her hair and our long time friend Tatia is a bow pro. Tatia said that in return for her bow making services, she wanted a headband. So Marisa quickly volunteered me to make one, lol, what can I say? I'm a nice big sister. Plus I like making these and needed a project at the time.
I made this up in Red Heart With Love in the Hot Pink colorway. I already had this color in my stash and Tatia requested a bright pink - hopefully she likes it this bright because she definitely got what she asked for ha ha. I made this one with the button hole option and I used a pretty gold shank button from my stash. I really like how the button compliments the hot pink.
I always love to look up close at the lace pattern on this headband. It's so pretty but so simple.
So, there's one more headband done. This will be mailed off soon now since it will start to get pretty chilly in up Utah. Tatia - I hope you like it!

Craftsy Class Review: Sewing Machine Feet from A to Z
I've had the Sewing Machine Feet from A to Z Craftsy class in my account ever since the week it was released. It's a free class (and I always snatch them up just for the sake of it), but it also sounded like a very useful class and I knew I would get around to watching it sometime. With finishing my khaki skirt this weekend, I had the opportunity to use my fancy stitch-in-the-ditch foot that came with my new sewing machine. Stitch-in-the-ditch is a technique where you sew a seam, press the seam open, then stitch back into the seam you just created. The idea is to hide the new stitches in the seam you already stitched so it's invisible. I've done this before with just a general sewing foot, but it was pretty difficult to keep it perfectly straight in the seam. With this foot - seriously, it was a dream! There is a small guide that sticks out ahead of the foot. The guide wedges itself in the seam and then the needle is directly behind it, so the foot keeps it straight for you and you just hold down your foot to sew - that's it! It came out perfect!
I was fortunate that my new sewing machine came with a whole slue of fancy feet: cording, walking, rolled hem, blind hem, zipper, satin stitch, braiding, bias binding, and much more. It's nice that it came with them all (so I don't have to pay extra for ones I may need down the road), but at the same time it's proved to be more of a warm and fuzzy safety feeling than a "Man, these are so useful," feeling since I honestly have no idea how to use most of them. Don't get me wrong - I'm "familiar" with what they are all for. In fact, I watched a Home Shopping Network video from when they were selling my machine on the air, and they show first hand how some of them work. My problem is there were too many to keep track of and most of the things they are used for I personally have not come across in my projects thus far. So, with a renewed interest in all my extra sewing machine feet, I decided to finally watch the Craftsy class.
Sewing Machine Feet from A to Z is taught by Steffani Lincecum (she's also the teacher in Pattern Making from Ready-to-Wear - another class I'm in), who works in the costume industry for tv and movies, so she definitely knows her stuff with sewing :) She basically just goes over the basic feet included with every machine as well as just a few fancy extra ones. The feet the class shows are:
All in all, I found this class very informative. It's not very long (a little over 35 minutes total), but it's an action packed half hour and you really come away with a better understanding of how these feet can make your life easier when used in the right application. The class made me more excited about trying out all of my fancy feet and also has officially made me bite the bullet and get an invisible zipper foot. All the craftsy classes I've taken zing the praises of the invisible zipper foot, but I've just been making due with a standard zipper foot. I can really see how much easier the special foot makes things, and I found one on Amazon for less than $5! Can't beat that!
This class is completely free and you can get it for yourself right here! May we all get a better understanding of our feet :)

The Best Freebie Ever - And Why Reward Programs Rock!
I will not even lie and say I didn't squeal and jump up and down when my husband brought me this box yesterday. As soon as I saw who it was from, I got really excited :)
For those of you who don't know, I am a HUGE Disney fan. I grew up on Disney everything and I still hold everything up to their standards when it comes to animated films and whatnot. Don't believe me, play Disney Trivial Pursuit against me :) Since I had such a love of their movies growing up, I want my kids to have the same experience. Not that I have kids yet or anything, but since Disney likes to "release movies from the vault" for purchase for only specific amounts of time, I have been collecting them as they are released over many years. I think I started in college, actually. I've been buying up the DVDs (and later Blurays) the week they are released because that's when they are the cheapest - seriously, they don't go less than that if it's a big hit movie. Anyway, I mention this because through all my purchases, I have racked up quite a few Disney Movie Rewards points.
DMR is a great perk program. Every Disney movie you buy has a code inside that can be redeemed for points in the program. DVDs are worth 100 points, Blurays 150, movie tickets 50 and so on. Everything has a value. Also, as a DMR member, you get monthly emails that will give you a few points each and holidays and birthdays give you extras too. You can redeem your points for various Disney items. They have movies, toys, stickers, clothes, and much more. They even have free color page downloads (which I may or may not have taken advantage of). It's a good program if you like Disney stuff.
I had redeemed some points years ago - they had the Duck Tales movie when you couldn't buy it anymore! - but since then I have just let my points sit as there wasn't anything I really needed at the time. Probably about a year ago they started adding non-Disney-branded items. They were all still things that would "enhance your Disney experience" so to speak though, and one of them was a Panasonic Bluray Player. I never really thought much about it since we only had 1 TV and we used the PlayStation for our Bluray player. That was until we bought a house and had more rooms ... and I had my own room ... with a small HD tv ... and only a DVD/VHS player to use with it ... I suddenly had my eye on the prize of that Bluray player and I was only 14 points shy of getting it! So I did what any rational person would have done - I went to Target and found the least expensive/most point giving Disney movie I didn't have (yet wanted) and bought it, lol. Yes, I bought James and The Giant Peach on Bluray/DVD combo pack for $14.99 to get another 150 points, giving me enough to fulfill my dream and still have a little to grow on :)
I redeemed my points last week and was told it would arrive in 2 to 4 weeks, which explains my surprise and excitement when my husband gave me the box today with Disney Movie Rewards as the return address!!! And here it is:
Check out that invoice - $0.00! Woot woot!
This is the Panasonic BD755, which sells for over $100 through Amazon (seriously, when I cashed in the points the only price was the $110). It came with the HDMI cable and everything :) And look how well it fits in its new home:
It's the exact length of my DVD/VHS player - now I have all my bases covered (and yes, I do still have some VHS tapes, don't judge). The only slight bummer is that it isn't wireless and my router is downstairs, so I will have to get an adapter to use Netflix and all that - I seriously don't know why I didn't think about that before. But that's easily solved and it's something I would have had to deal with if I had bought a player anyway, so no foul. If you had told me 6 years ago that I would eventually get a free bluray player through a rewards program, I would have tried to call your bluff, I'm sure. But here is the living proof - rewards programs do work out to your advantage if you keep up with them! This is one of the most valuable freebies I've gotten and I can't wait to use it. I recently got a Marilyn Monroe bluray pack too - no better way to break this baby in!
So, friends, don't just throw away your reward codes! I am here to tell you that they will pay off if you give it enough time. And I'm not just talking about Disney movies. I use Coke Rewards, Kelloggs, MyPoints, Lean Cuisine, and many more I can't think of right now. It's worth it, believe me :)

My favorite crochet animal designer, Stacey from FreshStitches, is celebrating the 1st birthday of the FreshStitches group on Ravelry today! Ravelry is a free online community for knitters and crocheters where you can buy patterns, show off your makes, keep track of your supplies and more. I LOVE Ravelry and my favorite group I am in is undoubtedly the FreshStitches Group. Everyone there is so nice and you get to see all the latest cute animals being made all around the world - it's such a fun place!
So, in honor of the Ravelry group's 1st birthday, Stacey is giving the group members a birthday present! She has posted a code in this group thread that will get you your choice of one of the following patterns for free!

It's such a hard decision! I went with the flamingo pattern since I have patterns similar to the others already, but all of them are so cute! I was very torn :)
If you would like to join in the fun even more, you can take a photo of you with a FreshStitches animal you've made wearing party hats and post it in the group :) I had a little photo shoot this morning with some of my crocheted friends.
Even if you haven't had the chance to make any yet, just stop by and with the group a Happy B-Day and join in the fun!
